Curious - where did you learn about the GP2X and this site? We're getting a lot of newbies lately here, so I just wonder where they're coming from? i.e. Slashdot? A gaming site? Some emulation messageboard?

Well this newbie came across the original GP32 when he was looking for accessories for the Gameboy Advance. I was hoping to get a flash cart. I didn't pay it much attention at the time.

My sister was about to buy either a nokia ngage or a PSP for a 24hr flight. So i went looking for a flash cart for the GBA again, I was going to post the GBA over to her with some roms and maybe a few films. I am pretty sure the site was called GBAX or something like that.

Anyway by the time i factored in the cost of a 1gb Flash Cart and an Afterburner Backlighting kit it just didn't seem worth it. I wasn't going to risk posting the Archos AV380 over to her and I came across the GPX2/GP32 again. A quick google later and I sent her over the details and she was sold on the idea.

I did such a good job of selling it to her I decided to get one myself as well.

I guess the GBA is going onto ebay

From here, I've been using GP32 since July last year, been kinda inactive but checking back from time to time.

I found out by gp2x by this site which i found after i baught my gp32, i found the gp32 on ebay looking for a neogeo pocket. Somwone wanted to swap their neogeo pocket for a gp and it intrieged me from there..

found out about the gp32 by complete chance a couple of years ago. have convinced 3 friends to buy it. naturally, i've been following the community since then so i heard about the gp2x.

I heard of the GP32 years ago, but never felt the need to buy one. Then I saw the GP2X in a news story on www.insertcredit.com, and decided I had to have one :)
I found this site from the link in Craig's mail after pre-ordering one - it's good to see there's an active community already, and the SDL support should make getting basic stuff up and running a cinch :D

I can't remember how exactly I came upon the GP32, but it had to be while reading a magazine. I kept wanting one but didn't know if the money was worth it. I kept hearing about the SNES emu not being so great on the system. As time passed I kept coming back to gp32x.de to check up on what was going on with the system. Well a few weeks ago I came back and saw that they really had made a sequal to the GP32. I was excited. I now have one preordered with gp32z.com. It should be awesome.

LikSang advertisement for the GP32 on an illegal Rom site  (While looking for roms to use with a Dreamcast NES emulator).

And now the GP2X is already preordered (since it is such a nice improvement over my NLU GP32) :)

I first heard about the GP32 when my fiance got one and after seeing the way it handled doom i was so impressed had to get one myself and got one in march last year. I came across the GP2X when trying to get onto GBAX.
I preordered the GP2X soon after and can't wait for it to come out.

I'm not going to lie, I heard about the GP2X through Slashdot. As for the GP32, I think I saw that at Lik-Sang while looking for Dreamcast stuff a while back. I never got one, though, because it didn't have any commercial games for it and I just didn't know how deep the homebrew scene was for it (and at the time, I didn't really care). Now I'm starting to get a little more into that sort of thing, found the GP2X and thought "I NEED ONE." Linux-based? Plays movies? Ebooks? PROGRAMMABLE?! I'm in. No self-respecting geek could say no to that. I haven't placed a pre-order yet, but that's cause I'm waiting for a friend to let me know if he wants one too and then we can save on shipping by ordering together.

This is also my first post. Hopefully it won't be my last. :)

I heard about the gp32 on the zodiac forums, I was interested in the gp32, but then a sequal was announced, and I turned out to like the gp2x. :)

Called my family in Korea to buy and send me a unit the day it came out. The idea of a handheld not by Nintendo was really cool to me.

Asistonia limited edition GP32! :D

I took care of my unit very poorly so it's got no resell value at all though. Ducktaped box, GP32 crevises filled with crayon, manually fixed buttons and triggers (with ballpoint springs).

Terrible! :D

I found out about the GP32 a couple of years back while I was at college...some guy on my bus had one and was talking about how good it was for emulation, so I looked it up and found out about it. Couldnt afford to buy one at the time...student and all...

And I found out about the GP2X a few weeks back, I bought a Zodiac off ebay earlier this year which I used to play roms on, but the power supply died so I'm left with a useless unit that I can't charge :( I was looking for another handheld that did the same thing but with better specs (and used SD cards, as I have a ton of them for my camera), and voila! I found the official GP2X site and was instantly interested. I preordered mine as soon as Craig put them up for sale, and now October can't come soon enough :p

Oh, and hi. I look forward to using these forums more as the thing actually gets released and people start to do some really cool things with it!

I was on Gamefaqs, and I saw the GP32, about....2 years ago maybe, and I wanted one....But I decided not to, then I was on GameFAQs, and went to teh Neo Geo Pocket Color Message Board, and I saw a topic like " leik whoamgz teh GPX2zZ, uses a analogiz stixx like teh NGPC "

And so I thought of the days that I use to want a GP32...And I know it was for sure better than a GP32...So it can emulate up the wazoo.

Looked into it, and I love it. It will be with me at all times now. Along with my DS. and I might sell my iPod now.

And I am about to pre-order....so long as the hurricane doesnt hit here.

( Lives in Houston. * crosses fingers * )
Pray for me! :(

I actually found out about the Gp32 from the Zodiac site. I saw a Zodiac add in a magazine found my way to the zodiac site and bought a Z2 mostly for emulation and games. Well the games mostly sucked and the emulators were ok but I hated the analog stick, draining battery (always seemed dead when I wanted to use it, I spent more time charging than playing it seemed) and the screen stretching. I kept hearing of the GP32 but always though it was not L337 enough for us Z users because the specs on paper were not as high. I thought the GP32 was just what the lamers had, well that is what many would say in the forum so I believed them, I didn't know. One day though I kept thinking that another toy wouldn't hurt and it couldn't be THAT lame. So I just said fuck it and sniped one off of ebay. After that I kept finding myself playing with the GP32 more and more and the Z less and less. I ended up selling the Z a little over a year after I got it. Then almost a year after that tapwave bit the apple. The same day I found out about tapwave's demise the GP2X was announced :p

yeah, goodluck man!
oh yeah, gp32z might be the cheapest since you're also in the us

Something about it was posted at one of the message boards I frequented. I had read about the GP32 from a small blurb in EGM and I knew its' main strength was emulation, so I did some research into the new system. That lead me to here and I've been following the news ever since (mostly as a lurker...This is my first post). The biggest features that have me counting the days down (besides the emulation) are the TV output and the stick, since it looks to be similar to the Neo Geo Pocket Color's stick, which is my favorite style of digital pad. Oh yeah, plus I can watch fansubs on my TV. :D Too good!

The prospect of everything GP2X is supposed to deliver is far more exciting to me than a DS or a PSP. I've grown tired of Nintendo and Sony's antics (GB Micro, constant GBA remakes, PSP "Value" Pack), so that's all the more reason to support the underdog. Nice to see the makers support the fanbase and give them (or us, rather, since I'm definitely getting one) what we want instead of telling us what we want.
