Could you losers stop talking politics for once? This topic was about helping the people who need it. <_<

I think the news media has turned this into a political thing. The group that I am a part of has sent 30 eighteen wheelers down there loaded with stuff for those in need. We are not waiting on the government.

At first I thought 'oh crap, boblibob, he never posts anything intelligent' but you actually decided to put in your two cents on a political discussion. Unfortunately you only made blanket statements and resorted to internet slang! Thanks for proving me right.

I'm simultaneously annoyed and pleased that this discussion moved from New Orleans to God and abortion in two pages :)

I'm no devout religious man, but I do have some beliefs that correspond to different religions.

As far Creation vs. Evolution goes:
I believe that "the higher power" set in motion the Big Bang, the formation of matter, and the beginning of life, but beyond that I support evolution for the most part.

Morals:
While I disregard the majority of the ten commandments but I do believe stongly in .
the following 2:
Thou shall not Kill
Thou shall honor thy Mother and Father
I'm a pacifist and think that using lethal force for any reason is inmoral. Family is extremely important to me, and I plan on caring for my parents in their old age if I can.
As far as helping people goes: I say fuck the rich and powerful and do what you can to help those less fornate.

God's Purpose:
I believe that "the higher power" can take any form it chooses, and can attempt to influence people though visions or the followers of those who have had such visions. But I believe that all sentient life-forms have free will.

My opinion of other's views:
As long they don't try to shove it down people thoats I have no problem with people who opinions differ from mine. I think that the 1st amendment is the most important law in america and it should be uphold reqardless. I have nothing against homosexuals and same-sex marriage, and i think that marriage should be defined by the individuals views and not by the government.

My family is considering going down south to help out (over break, of course). Also, I agree with whoever said that media has created this a political issue and that people should be doing things themselves, not expecting the government to. The government has alwasy been, and will probably always be, a slow operation. But, if we are talking about politics, I think that C B Felterbush is right in almost everything he said. Yes, bush has screwed up, yes, there are some stupid religious extremists, but that doesn't mean all right-wing people are like that. Although i don't exactly agree with homosexuality, i think that the government should just let people do what they want to. Its a moral dissision that people should be allowed to make for themselves. However, abortion is very different because (especially visible in partial birth abortions) when people have abortions they are actually killing other humans, no matter how young or small. Its like putting an age limit at which people actual have human rights. What if the age limit was 5, and anyone younger than 5 could be killed and it didn't matter because they weren't developed? I realise this is a very extreme analogy, but it does make you wonder (well, at least it makes me wonder. :D .......)

Alright, DaveC, good point... I didn't think of that(the "how far will it go?" part...) so yeah, I guess you're right. It shouldn't be taught at all in school cuz where do you stop then?

I pretty much agree with Jeff. I believe in a few things(ideals, not mythical stuff like god) from a combination of different religions... pretty much what christianity preaches about being nice to peoeple and not killing(other humans. It kind of makes sense that you'd try as hard as possible not to kill any other humans. You want to survive, and you want your species to survive, like any other animal... yes, we're animals... show/tell me how we're not... go on, try it... anyway... and if you go around killing other people, you'll increase the chances of your species becoming extinct)and that kind of stuff... However, "honor thy father and mother" is a bunch of shit. There's nothing wrong with honoring and respecting your parents, as long as they deserve it. Respect and honor should be earned, not automatic. The simple fact that you spawned as a result of 2 human beings doesn't automatically mean that they're repsectful to you, so you shouldn't necessarily be respectful to them. Respect is a mutual thing. Doesn't it mention in the bible SOMEWHERE about how you should treat others as you want to be treated? I can't remember for sure(i haven't ever actually read the entire thing myself, but I have read some of it when i was younger and forced to go to church), but if it does say that... Then there's another inconsistency... If you should treat others as you want to be treated, you can pretty much expect to be treated the way treat others... so if you're an asshole to your kids, you can expect nothing but asshole behavior in return... You have no reason to respect a bunch of assholes. I believe everybody deserves at least a small bit of initial respect and honor, but once he or she decides to be an asshole, you give the motherfucker a taste of his or her own [ spam word ]. That goes for parents, police officers, heros, villains, enemies, teachers, friends... EVERYBODY.

As far as homosexuality is concerned, I have nothing against it. I'm not a homosexual. I have only ever known 2 people who were homosexual(as far as I know... there could still be some hiding in the closet) They're just as decent as any other human being I know. I would prefer not being hit on by one, but I'm not about to flip out if any of them ever do that(unless he's trying to grab something... then I'll get pissed). While I personally have no problem with them, I can understand why people would... going back to what I said earlier about keeping the species alive... since homosexuals don't like members of the opposite sex, they would have no reason to reproduce, which means that they won't directly help to continue the species. They're not detrimental to the species or society, but they're not really "helpful" to the species either. So I can see why there's a bit of a negativity attached to them. However, whether they help to continue the existence of the species or not, today it doesn't even matter because there are so many humans anyway. So I believe they deserve the same treatment as any other human being. They shouldn't be viewed as 2nd class citizens. If they want to get married, let 'em get married. They're not hurting anybody by doing that... if they wanna adopt a child, let them adopt a child. once again, they're not hurting anybody. It won't make the kids become homosexual, and even if it would, that's not really a bad thing anyway. Initially, everybody deserves the exact same treatment, respect, and honor... until he or she fucks up.

I still don't need another touch screen. DS will be enough for me. I think that the GP2X will be "OK" without it.

Yes, absolutely nothing... there weren't any subjects or predicates in any of those sentences... In fact, they weren't even sentences, they were just a collection of random gibberish... good call, dipshit.

"string of bullshit"...

"UH-OH! Magus stated his opinion! DAMN HIM! OPINIONS ARE BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!!! BULLSHIT, I SAY!!!!"

Please excuse me for being "boring." I didn't realize that the sole purpose of my coming here was to entertain you, almighty Klown. Please forgive me, your highness, for next time I will be sure to amuse you because that's my job. And I'll try not to explain myself anymore because it's awesome when people don't communicate well enough so that everybody understands exactly what they wanted to say and exactly where they're coming from. Ignorance and stupidity are so cool, aren't they?

Let's analyze this...

"You have no reason to respect a bunch of assholes."

Yes, that is pure bullshit in its most potent form, is it not? I mean it's always a good idea to be really nice to people who do things you don't like to you. Like when some guy attacks my car with a baseball bat for no reason, I should go up to him and say "hey, buddy, how ya doin? Thanks for attacking my car like that, it was really cool. Feel free to beat the shit out of my car anytime."

"I have nothing against homosexuals, and I think that they should be treated like everybody else"

Once again, pure bullshit. I really DO hate them and think they should be treated like slaves or rats. I just said that I have nothing against them because I really want people to think my opinions are different than they really are. What a clever person you must be to have caught me in the act of being dishonest, Klown! You truly are a great detective. Watch out, Sherlock, Klown is the new detective on the block, and he's about to take your place!

Do you realize how much of a fuckin idiot you are?

Almost every post you type is a long rambling, and not to mention boring string of bullshit.

Topic sentences + supporting details = not rambling.
boring = Opinionated; maybe if you didn't have the attention span of a gnat, you could read his posts.
bullshit = Stuff that doesn't make sense; usually said to make a person look like he knows what he's talking about. Similarly to what I said before: Topic sentences + supporting details = bullshit; the basic translation of what you said was "you're stupid". This includes nothing to back up your claim; how can anyone be full of shit if you aren't?

This was a lie of a topic and scoobydew was a liar for saying it. Now it has turned into a political/religious war, which has no point whatsoever. I would like to suggest that this topic be locked and/or deleted.

Help and compassion is one thing, lying and arguing are others entirely.

This was a very good discussion until Klown started flaming Magus.

Discrimination is never good. But as far as teaching creation and evolution in school is concerned, I think they should at least briefly cover creation but say "this is what some people believe." Don't teach it as though it's fact. Just give both sides of the story equally, and let the kids decide which one they think makes the most sense.
OK, but let's give The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster equal billing as well. :) Their wonderfully insightfull letter to the Kansas School board (click on the link) should be read by everyone.

Aside from all that... answer me this one question. If God supposedly knows everything that's going to happen, and he can control it all... AND he made every one of us the way we are... then that means that he made homosexuals, and he also made it so that women would one day have abortions... that basically means that he's punishing people for things that he's controlling. It doesn't matter if we have free will or not. If he doesn't want us doing certain things, then he should take control and make sure we don't do them, but he doesn't... that's a pretty big inconsistency, and it doesn't make sense... so you can go ahead and throw all your christianity right out the window now because it means nothing
Excellent point. I suppose the answer would be "God's ways are mysterious and cannot be understood by mere mortals". Which may be a fine explanation for some people, of course, except that a lot of other things that people used to think were beyond mortal understanding have since been explained by science. This leads me to think more and more that there really IS no limit to what can be understood by mortals (or at least mathematically explained - for example very few of us can really comprehend how HUGE the Earth is, yet we know its circumference). I may be wrong of course, but still it seems a better use of time to me to TRY to understand something than just assume that you cannot.

If that's true, then I have no quarrel with you. About the Big Bang - if you're interested, there's some more information here (it's pretty easy to read). The homepage of that website is here.

I don't think the thread should be locked - it's veered off-topic, but there are some very nice posts there.

Back to the tsunami - the first I heard of it was on my flight back from my vacation (from Moscow), where I picked up a newspaper. It's a horrible disaster, what else is there to say? Right now the best thing would be to stop blaming other parties for what happened and help the people stranded there as soon as possible. There are tons of offer for help from other countries (Canada has set aside some navy ships that it's offered to sail to New Orleans), but the US has yet to accept any of them. I just hope that they're not doing what Russia did with the submarine disaster (trying to prove that they're man enough to do it themselves).

Prices for fuel in Toronto rose 50 cents/litre in one day... just crazy. This comes at the beginning of the long weekend too... sad to say, that's the biggest impact of the disaster on my household so far.

By the way, does anybody have a link to GWB's supposedly bad speech?

Yeah, you're right, I could have just told you to fuck off... but what's your point? That's not the way I am. If you haven't yet figured out that I like to elaborate on things, then you're obviously a moron. Hasn't the argument in the thread about Michael Jackson from a few months ago taught you anything?
