As we have a great new gpQuake version
I would like talk about Quake mods!

I think you don't need the Quake full version to play them, right?
Because i've already tryed some and they worked with the shareware.

I've tryed a mod called Vagrant
You have to play through the Quake levels
but the view isn't first person. Its from behind the player.
And you attack like in a RPG. The game freezes and you make your attack.
That doesn't work very good, but you can play it.

A mod called Galactix doesn't work. A weird mesage appears.
The readme says that you have to write something to start the mod.
Maybe you can play it with a chatbord.

Then I also tryed Prydon.
A nice RPG. You have to move your character using a mouse (like in Diabolo)
And you can zoom and rotate the view.
Its not very playable with my 166mhz. slower than Quake.
And you will need a chatbord to controll the most things.
But i could attack some spiders!! :)

Are there any other good mods which you can play on your gp32?(without chatbord)

Some need files from the full version. Actually all should need the full version but I removed the check.

If you need to type something to start it (often a map command) then you can try creating a file called autoexec.cfg which contains the necessary commands and place the it in the same folder as the mod. Might work, might not.

Not tried any in 0.6, but in older versions alien quake worked very well (better than original quake) but I think it's still illegal so I can't give you a link. Raptors is a nice mod but very slow on the gp32. And some versions of quake rally might work until you get to later levels. (Note - there's no guarentee that these mods will stilll work in 0.6 as the amount of memory available to quake has been altered to solve some other problems).

Just out of curiosity, why is the Aliens mod illegal? I remember I bought a CD aaages ago with loads of Quake mods on, and it had the Aliens mod 'advertised' on the front amongst others, but said in big letters it was 'Banned on the Internet!!' etc etc.

Actually, whilst I'm making a post, has anyone heard of a Goldenaxe mod for Quake? It made it into a beat 'em up, with a side view. I found a small demo of it a while ago, but wondered if there was a full version of it yet?

How to use this autoexec.cfg file??
In a readme for a mod called jaws you can read:
Start quake with the parameter "-game jaws -listen 8 +map jaws".

So i just have to create this cfg file and write "-game jaws -listen 8 +map jaws"
into it???

Somewhere i read that you have to declare where to find the game (e:/games/quake)
but where to write this? And what should i write for the gp32?
My pc says: G:\GPMM\quake

You don't need to worry about the -game parameter as the quake launcher sets that value for you when you select the mod. Don't know what -listen does but it doesn't matter as you can't set it anyway ;). Any - parameters are things passed to the quake executable, which you can't modify in gpquake unless you rewrite the launcher. + parameters are ones processed by the quake engine once it is running so those are the ones you can try putting into autoexec.cfg, but you don't include the +. Create autoexec.cfg in your jaws folder containing the line 'map jaws' (don't include the quotes) and see if things work.

THX i will try it again.
But there is an other error which often appears:
Mod_NumForName progs/enforcer.mdl not ... (the rest isn't visible)

(Using mods like quadquake)

Sometimes there isn't "enforcer.mdl" but "laser.mdl" not found.
Why? Is this maybe because i have the shareware and these mods needs the full version?

Just found a great mod.
Its called Raptors. (get it from here: http://www.quaketerminus.com/addon.htm

It places you as a soldier battling you way against raptors.
In my opinion its very fun!! playable as Quake!
and the saves are working!!!!!!!!!!!

Does somebody knows if its possible to play Quake Rally on your gp32?
that would be really great!!

hmm... I think i got just to the end of the Raptors mod.
but i don't know if its the end:
There is a helicopter but if i try to enter I always die!!
weird.......

By the way, there seems to be not very much persons
playing Quake or the mods. (no comments) why not? its fuN!! B)

I just had a thought, I'm allowed one a week :) .

If someone was to take one of the quake maps, and reduce the detail in them, would that let them run smoother on the GP32?

It's just a thought, and if it's a useless one, that's me done for the week then  .

I remember Quake Rally, Air Quake (the one with the aircraft and tanks), Team Fortress (That was fun, playing single player as an engineer...), and a fantasy one... you had character classes, and the bow (for example) you had to actually aim upwards to hit. Possibly Fantasy Quake or something. Very very fun.
