I have found in http://www.berzerk.co.uk/gp32/ that some games were showed mirrowed in MAME GP32 1.4 (also they should be mirrowed in MAME GP32 1.5). I will try to solve this problem for next version (I didn't know about this fail). I have seen that comment in Missile Command. What other games have this problem???

Also i think the sound will be better now. DaveC reported to be worse in MAME GP32 1.4. DaveC, please tell me if this have been improved and if it is similar than MAME GP32 1.3 and previous versions or not.

Also i have recoded the audio library and probably it should have bugs. I have not tested the new version extensivelly...

Any other bug reports will be welcome.

Thanks.

I have just tried the new version. The sound is still stuttery and crackly like in version 1.4, I notice no improvement. Version 1.3 is still the best version for sound quality. I used Ms. pac-man, Mr Do!, and Cosmic Avenger running at 133 FS0 to test.

Crazy Kong got better:
The old sound core resetted as soon as Kong reached the top of the screen.
The new sound core doesn't reset - it makes a never-ending screeeeeech.

trojan resets after pressing start.

This game has problems with underclock option. Deactivate it.

It is due to new graphics core. I will try to change again compilation options, i changed them from 1.3 to 1.4.

But i.e. i tried Pacman with 1.4 and 1.5 and i think it sounds better now.

But I think the problem is noticeable in oldest games only. Newest games sounds in the same way than 1.3 or 1.4, but in 1.5 they run faster.

Mr. Do is difficut to sound ok due to timing. I changed the timing testing with Mr.Do and i got a better sound but it was too slow for other games. I don't know what's the reason.

Thanks and regards.

Arabian seems messed up to me. The controls seem to be wrong and the alternative screen mode (portrait) is upside down if you want the d-pad at the bottom of the screen. I have seen a couple of other games like this too, but can't remember which ones.

Bosconian is weird, the ship shoots from it's sides on screen, but you seem to actually shoot hidden bullets ahead and behind as is normal.
I never tried Bosconian with 1.4, so cannot say whether 1.5 changed it.

Nevertheless, this is a great release! So much more accessible with one list.

So the best option will be to use 1.3 for better sound? would 1.3 work with the front end? I really don't want to use 1.5 for the older games as the sound is not good. Maybe if there was a way to select which version loads in the front end I would have the older games load with 1.3 and the newer ones that only work in 1.5 load with 1.5 fxe.

I've printed out the gamelist file, and have been going through them one by one.

Halfway through the list...

1) The following are rotated 90 degress counter clockwise, but the controls are not altered accordingly:

arabian
astrof
astrof2
astrof3
bezerk
bezerk1
blockout
challeng
cosmica
frenzy
frenzy1
kangarob
kangaroo
killcom
leprechn

2) The following are upside-down and mirrored:

gradius
gwarrior
konamigt

3) There's a few that do not yield a rom error, but say "no available game found", as the previous version did if you launched the fxe and had nothing matching them:

csprint
fantzone
liberatr

4) There's a few games where the audio goes to a constant screech. I don't have those all noted.

5) Odds and ends
a) There is no collision detection in bioatack, but I think that was an early problem with MAME.
b) junglek and jhunt both seem to have an issue when you get past the vines and dive. Nothing is displayed, but the audio keeps going.

Let me know if this is useful feedback. If not, I'll forgo reporting back on the the last half.

Very useful feedback, thanks. This is the sort of stuff developers need. It's exact and to the point, vague comments like "it's gone a bit rubbish" don't give us much to work on. I work with some testers who simply report "It's broke", I just want to give them a slap some days.

1942 (he mentioned ever hopefully - making it clear he was MORE than impressed at all the amazing work done to this point!)

Has anyone tried Mad Planets? The ship spins round all over the shop when you move left and right. I never even knew the ship could rotate! I guess that the original game must have had a spinner control (although the KLOV doesn't mention it), as well as a joystick. Is there a way of changing the controls to prevent the rotation?

The following display ERROR: NO AVAILABLE GAMES FOUND

Championship Sprint
Paperboy
Super Sprint

edit: Battlezone. I found something strange - the right diagonals work (allowing me to go forward/backwards and right at the same time) but the left diagonals don't work.

Thanks for that e_b, but this game is still being a git. I like it too and would love to play it.

Sneak Preview...
Because of the nature of this problem I thought it was something to do with the games not storing the High Scores. I've therefore embarked on putting High Score support into all the games to see if it helps. Unfortunately this is a HUGE task, as there are well over 700 "drivers", one for each games, which need to be updated to use High Scores.

Apart from being an attempt to fix 1942, I'm sure it'll give me more long term enjoyment of Mame. If you've got a high score to aim for, then it gives you a reason to go back and play a game again.

You can change the controls by creating a .joy file and sticking in the JOY sub-directory. Maybe if you set the values to 0 then it will stop rotating.

Thanks for the information White Demon.

I'm not sure those games are fully supported, maybe they should be taken off the available games list.

Cool - I'll give that a go. Cheers!

Definitively NO. I will solve the problem for version 1.6.
