Maybe it's just me but I'm curious as to why no high score saving support has been added to any of the GP32 emulators (AFAIK). Apart from playing the game the next best thing (for me) was saving your score, entering your initials and then trying to better yourself the next time. Maybe I'm just from the Arcade era where this was common practice. I'm sure adding this feature would make playing the game far more enjoyable and give you reason to push yourself that little bit further. Please don't take this as a moan as I'm very happy with what we have got :D but surely I can't be the only one, or am I .

Most emulators have save states, wouldn't they be able to save your high score or am I missing something?

I suppose so but couldn't this be done automatically (I'm thinking of Mame but in one file (per emulator). I have to admit, I'm not too clued up on save states, never really used them. Are the 8-10 save states allocated for all or each game?

Its simple really..

Every game does it differently.

For arcade games (MAME, and every other emu... they're not just "MAME games") people often have worked out where the high score tables are and thus can save them. Lots of work.

Imagine doing that for every game on every console? Someone would have to work out how every game stores its scores, as well as variations like each cracked version, and how the machine state is.. (ie: C64 or Atari ST or Amiga or other general purpose machine, woudl be different on each load)

So its not really practical.

Could do an implicit save-state on exit, but that'd chew through SMC space fast.

What I do on Devil Crash (pinbal game on DrMD) is save the state after entering my initials on the highscore table then whenever I want to play again some other time, I load the saved state which brings up the highscore table so I know which score I have to beat, then continue playing from there.

I can't remember the exact amount of save states available in DrMD but are these available for all games or per game? Say when your in a game and you press L + R, then go to save state, are those listed for the game only?

In DrMD you get 10 save states per game.

Thanks Reesy, that should be plenty :D. Actually, I should only need to use one per game anyway. Just out of interest, how much space would these use or does it vary?
