Right, that's me. As you can see, I have quite a bit of hair. Alot, in fact-it's very thick and naturally curly, so I wash it every day and straighten it with irons, occasionally blowdrying it. Yes, I'm a girl when it comes to my hair.

As of late I've started to notice that my hair has receeded quite a bit-not noticable to be honest (because of all the hair that covers , but still thining out my fringe. I haven't got a bald patch on my crown, though.

I'm only 18 and was wondering if anyone else suffers from this, or if anyone knows if I stop overwashing it that it will thicken up?

I'm 19 and I wake up every morning with a pillow full of hair but my hair never seems to thin out or get a bald patch.
You may just be getting a higher hair line, it'll stop and with long hair no one will ever notice. Short hair you'll have an m shape of your hair line,

ask your dad and your grandparents... the genetic aspect of hair loss far outweighs stuff like what shampoo you use.

Could be nature's way of telling you to cut that fringe off so you can see properly...

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to sit a fetal position in the corner muttering something about long-curly-haired GP32 owners from North Staffordshire called Mark. In the plural sense of course...

EDIT: Now that I think about it, it's probably paranoia. You're a bit hair obsessed so even if something minor changes in your hair, you're gonna be extra-sensitive about it.

That's actually a good point....thanks.

And don't worry Finty, grey hair can be dyed, or even better, left grey. Everyone loves grey hair.

I don't know her name, but a girl at my college has lost almost all of her fringe, and has just got the bit at the back. I feel really sorry for her, it's so much worse for the fems.

My dad is 45 and just started to lose his hair, my grandad still has a full head of hair.
Baldness comes from your mothers side of the family, it is passed through the X chromosome. Men are XY, the Y chromosome comes from your father (women are XX so your mother can't give you your Y chromosome) so the X chromosome, and with that baldness, comes from your mother. So don't look at your father, or his fathers hair, check your mothers father (and her brothers) instead.

Yeah I was about to say that.

My parents take great joy in taking the piss in my ever so slightly receding hair line. Which seems to be the same as it was when I was like 10 looking at photos.

I feel your pain though. I saw a guy today who had a fringe starting from about half way back his head to just above his eyebrows.

As soon as my hair starts to properly thin out (please please please don't though :(), I'm just shaving it off.

Your hairline will raise up a bit between about 18 - 25, just worry if it keeps going up ;) but usually its normal.
