Is This Worth It?

I can get:
156MHZ gp32_console
Boxed with manuals and two 128mb SMC's for £54 (Inc P+P)
DVD/CD full of apps/games/emu's/roms (i guess)

I'm completely new to GP32's (and this site so sorry if its in the wrong place) and dont really know what a gp32_console is worth.

if it's a FLU it's a good price... if it's a BLU its a steal...

a FLU is front lit
A BLU is back lit

IF it is nonlit its not a horrible price but you have to ask yourself... "do i want a nonlit screen?"

Its an original GP32, with no screen light. I would like a GP32, ebay has hardly any on there, Lik-sang and play asia dont have them and GBAX is a little pricey.

Is there no way to mod a GP32 to be front lit (much like the afterburner GBA)?

you can mod a GBA wormlight, but nothing at the moment like an afterburner kit, I have a non lit GP32 and it doesn't bother me not being able to play it in the dark because there are not many times that I will be playing my GP in a dark area.

THe original GBA was ok but became a pain after a while (On castlevania and pokemon), i could live without the light but having one would make it easier. Are there any brightnes/contrast controls?

Is what the persons offering worth it or should i try to get them to come down in price slightly?

I paid 100 Euro for my non-lit gp32 that can go up to 156 mhz (which is quite good, I hardly had any games/apps I would like to go higher) and I had no "DVD/CD full of apps/games/emu's/roms" coming with it. So I guess it would be an okay price.

But if I think ybout it, I should have waited and bought a BLU or atleast a FLU, cause most emus are really dark...

So, think about it yourself, if you like a gba sp more than a gba because of the light, then buy a flu/blu.

just keep in mind there is usually shipping charges as well...
and you would be surprised how often that light comes in handy.... I sometimes turn off my front light to see what it would be like in certain lighting conditions with out it... and the difference is almost always obvious.... only place a nonlit and a front lit look equally good is in direct sunlight.

You should go for a Blu or a Flu if you get the oppurtunity. I`ve had a Nlu (Non-lit unit) since April 2003 (Sitll got it, But is dead now :( ) , I also have 2 Blu`s (not +). Although wasn`t fussed about not having a light, I found I never played my Nlu as much as i do my Blu`s. It just give you the option to use it in the dark without any of the hassle a Nlu would give you.

EDIT: No, There is no hardware brightness or contrast controls, But some software can and do have these options built-in.

Trooper

The £54 included shipping.

Where is the best place to get one then? As i would prefer a Flu/Blu without having to spend much more than i would on this unit, SMC's wouldnt need to be included though.

Want to sell a Blu Trooper? :p

I suppose i could sell my Ngage that doesnt get much use...

also for the record, every emu i've played has gamma control so darkness has never been an issue on emus on my Non lit .

How much should i try to get them to lower the price for it then? Down to £44 inc P+P? would that be a better deal? as i could get a GBA wormlight cheap then and mod it.

Its a shame there isnt a afterburner style mod though...

You might as well spend a few more pounds and get a BLU. The backlit screen is MUCH nicer than either a FLU or NLU. The contrast is deeper, the colours richer, blacks blacker and the lighting much more even on a BLU than a FLU. The FLU also has problems with dust and the trapezoid effect which makes lines of light in the display. The FLU is also not a factory job, it is done by a third party much like an afterburner and can be dodgy sometimes.

Where can i get a Blu for a few more £'s then? I really would rather get a Blu tbh as, like someone else, I used my GBASP more than my GBA. If anyone is selling one/knoiws where i can get one for a good price i'd go for it.

Look in the marketplace on this board. There are a few in there for sale, it really is worth the extra cost. Even if you don't want to spend quite that much, my advice is to bite the bullet and get the BLU it is worth it. The BLU also has a far nicer screen than the GBA-SP too as it was a frontlit system too.
