hey i am getting my FIRST gp32 the blu one from this guy in UK who is buying it for me , i am doing some web design for him so instead of payment i get this. I can see their are SNES genesis etc etc emulators for it, whats the most powerful emulator arounf ofr it anyhting close to N 64 , or playstation prolly not just wondering and is it upgradeable , and can any roms work i have like 400 Roms of snes and would love ot put all those on those ocnpact card things, and if anyone else has anything interesting to say let me knwoi can'yt wait till i get mine ---------------Josh

Most powerful system it can emulate would be the Atari ST I believe. Check out CaSTaway GP for that beauty. Yes you can use your current roms that you use on PC emulators. Read the FAQ for loads of knowledge on your new bit of kit.

does the gp32 have any competitors or any other ysstems that are on the same level, -------Josh

there are some palms and pocket pc, especially on EBAY, that you can get for the same price that can do a hell of a lot more. I got my pocket pc after i got my GP32, paid $30 less than my GP32 and have better emulation and also, POCKET QUAKE which kicks ass due to it having full sound and full speed, unlike the GP32 version.

Also, pocket pc's have a bigger screen, but make sure you get a pocket pc with a d pad or something like a d pad, mine has a d pad and makes it great for gaming.

you must be the only person who i've ever heard describe a pda four way rocker pad as great for gaming

the gp32 is made for gaming, it has a d-pad and not just something thats intended to be slowly used to move around an os.

the zodiac is as good for the gp32 and slightly, slightly better in some regards, however the analogue d-pad makes playing a fair few games very annoying.

mine is not 4 way, mine has diaganols. and even though the pad is bigger than a normal d pad it is still not hard to hit the diagonals. NES is perfect w/sound, Gameboy/color, is perfect with sound, have not tried SNES and Megadrive yet, Gameboy advance is not that good so far but it beats the crap out of GPAdvance. Pocket Quake rocks, and there are some commercial games I can run that look as good as PS1 games, especially Anthelion. If it wasn't for GP32 homebrewn scene, i would give up on my GP32 completely and just use my pocket pc for gaming.

Also, its a hell of alot easier to get movies to play on Mobile media player than it its to try to go through encoding hell on the GP32.

You should try quake on the GP32, Apart from sound and saves it is bloody amazing. Btw, I do have a pocketpc (Asus mypal a620) which has one of, If not the best set of controls for gaming on any pocketpc. But the GP32 is the best for arcade games and 16bit or lower emulation (especially the controls), Including the pocket pc. Ok forgot the ps1 emulator, Yes it is great and i do like it, But it kills batteries like there is no tomorrow.

What kind of ppc do you have? I am interested in getting a ppc, acer n30 was recommended by someone but don't know yet. Yours sounds like one i'm interested in :)

Actually the Megadrive is better than an ST for games. The Megadrive has higher resolution 320 x 220 vs 320 x 200. The Megadrive has much better sound with the FM and such (isn't the sound chip in the ST like the same one that is in the Speccy?). The Megadrive can display 64 colors at once rather than 16 on the ST. The Megadrive has actual hardware sprites which the ST lacks.

any good working Nintendo 64 Emulators for pocket pc , if anyoen knows let me know

There are no N64 emulators for anything else but a PC. Pocket PC has lousy controls for games compared to the GP32 and no built in stereo speakers. Also the screen orientation is portrait making games harder play sideways. Screen sizes are usually the same at 3.5".

I stand corrected! I always thought the ST had more welly to it that that.

DaveC, do you know anything about pocket PC? I have an older compaq ipaq, it has a speaker with much better sound quality than the GP32, plus the emulators and pocket quake do not play portrait, they play normal and the screen size is still larger than the GBA but not quite as big as the GP32. The gaming pad on the ipaq is an 8 way pad and the buttons on the right make it perfect for emulation of systems with 2 or3 buttons like the NES, gameboy, genesis, plus you get mobile media player for movies and mp3s plus you get much better specs, mine is old yes, its 2-3 years old and it only has a 206mhz strong arm w/64mb of ram, but I usually overclock to 236mhz. I get all this and payed $30 less than a non lit gp32.

There also have been some pretty good commercial games released that I can play that look almost as good as some PS1 games.

@ Angel, Do you own a GP32 ???.

Megadrive games are nowhere near as good to play on a pocketpc as they are on the GP32 as we already know (landscape anyone), Especially with DrMD.

DaveC was refering to the fact that the sound on pocketpc`s (sans headphones) is not stereo, Unlike the GP32.

I`ve never had CastCE last longer than 5 minutes without crashing (probably because of the windows bloat underneath) so i gave that up as a lost cause, CastawayGP is sooo much more stable.

Granted, Snes emulation is faster on the pocketpc than on the GP32. But portrait mode again  , And we all know about the buttons.

The only emulators worth playing on a pocketpc realistically (to be enjoyable) are those with a screen width of 240 or less and two buttons or less. Anything else is just not worth it, Honestly, Even psx, And yes i have tried the psx emulator (the battery killer).

I know which i would prefer playing. ;)
