Is Gp32 Worth Getting?

By the way, that was a completely hypothetical scenario...right?

Suuuuuuure...

Anyway, believe me, the positives outweigh the negatives (negatives of the BLU+ that is), so definately consider getting a GP32. If you're afraid of the evil BLU+s, then just get a FLU. :p I have an FLU and am very happy with it. :D (Though I'd like a BLU... it'd be nice. :p)

I bought one a couple weeks ago and am in love with the thing. Though it's a bit shy in the 'new' department, I love having one little unit that can play hundreds and hundreds of old classics... being able to fit some 300 genesis, PC engine, NES, SMS, game gear and gameboy/gameboy color + some old classic PC games in the form of Doom and and some Lucasarts classic games on one tiny 128MB SMC.

Another card filled with a movie and/or some MP3's and that's one hell of a lot of entertainment from one tiny little unit. The initial cost is high for the unit, SMC and some batteries but after that it's almost all free and well worth the cost to buy in.

I too worried that the scene would be dyning by now... I mean the GP is hardly a new system anymore, but there are still a lot of people quite in love with the thing who gladly toil away their free hours of the day to produce great software for the thing for us all to enjoy... I think it will remain that way for quite a while.

hi i have been looking in to the gp32 and i think it looks a nice little handheld but when i have asked other peoples opinions about it they say it will be dead by this time next year. i was wondering if that is the way it is going or is their plenty of life in it yet
cheers

It was "dead" the day it was released. Dead meaning there really aren't any "real" games being produced for it like the GBA etc. It is also dead as most of the software for it are emulators that emulate dead systems. But since there is still much homebrew activity going on I would say it is still worth having. Once you have an emulator on it that runs 100% perfect it won't be like a better system will do it better like 120% or something, NES is NES, Genesis is Genesis.

Also even if the scene stopped tomorrow, Your GP32 won't evaporate out of your hands. You will still have all of the games and emus that you have now forever. The thing you have to decide is does the stuff that is out today for it make it worthwhile to you. To me it is worth it.

Goity have you ever considered a career as a gag writer? ;)

Anyway, to the original poster, definitely get it. I bought my FLU back when they still cost around $300 & before the Spain launch, and while I'm definitely feeling miffed that I didn't wait and get a BLU (which according to all of the comparison photos --there are many around-- has a noticeably better screen), I'm not sorry that I bought it at all. DOOM and Mp3 aren't my thing, but there are so many great other uses!

Now that it costs much less than it did when I bought it, I see no reason why anybody WOULDN'T buy it, because buying it (and an 128 SMC + card reader, which are really cheap nowadays - look on ebay) is likely the only investment you'll ever need to make; everything else can be downloaded for free, from the emulators to the wonderfull homebrew games (check out the link below for some reviews). :)
