hi i have been looking in to the gp32 and i think it looks a nice little handheld but when i have asked other peoples opinions about it they say it will be dead by this time next year. i was wondering if that is the way it is going or is their plenty of life in it yet
cheers

Sure, no doubt about it. You cant go wrong with it ... it cant be beaten by DS (small LCDs), but it can be beaten by PSP, but it will take some time.... So IMHO it is the best time ATM to buy GP32 BLU.

And considering, if the PSP is even ever "opened" for emulators and other homebrew, officially or... un-officially, it will take time for the PSP to get such emus/homebrews as the GP has...

In the mean time, I consider the GP32 and DS/PSP to be aimed/marketed at totally different audiences.

GP32 definately worth getting and after just trying DR. MD (genesis emulator) all I can say is that the emulators just get better and better - this system is far from dead even if you disregard future releases.

With DR. MD we just about have full speed with sound (especially as my FLU will overclock to around 240 mhz).

I was going to get a Zodiac 2 to replace the GP32 but now I don't know - may just get one to use as a PDA (now down to £250) - the GP32 control stick I also think is better.

So get a GP32 for the emulators/homebrew and a PSP for the commercial games - thats my opinion.

No, the GP32 sux

It doesn't even play:

Snes roms
Genesis games
Nintendo
Master system
PCEngine

It doesn't even play xvid or divx.

You also can't even view text files or jpg files!

It can't even emulate the old coleco vision sytem... tsk!

The worst about the gp32 is that it ISNT POSSIBLE TO PLAY MONKEY ISLANDS AND DAY OF THE TENTACLE!

To sum it up: You should go and buy a psp

Reversed world!!!!

If your after emulation of 16 bit and down consoles and homebrew then yes it is worth getting. If you want new pro games then no get a ds or psp.

Even if the gp32 comunity died which im sure it won't look at the dreamcast you will still have all the great games and emulators that are out now to play.

im actually waiting for a gizmondo but i wanted something for in between as its price is far 2 high

and yeah i like playing 16bit games i have had emulators on my pc for years and i still play the old mega drive games. :)

I've just got one, it's a christmas present but I had to test it early as it's a blu+ and I wanted to make sure that wasn't going to be a major problem. Let me assure you that it isn't, the screen is great and ignoring the "top scanline at bottom" bug which is present in pretty much everything but barely noticable and not really a problem I have't had any trouble. DrMD works fine, GPEngine works fine, Little John (NES) works fine, Castaway works fine, the only emulator that I've wanted that had the serious thick white line problem is OpenSnes 9x and Pinball Dreams has some major bugs but I'd still definately recommend one (and perhaps we can fix the bugs in opensnes!). Will PSP games look better? Of course they will (and cost £30 each), and of course I'll probably buy a PSP once they're widely available and don't cost a fortune, but the GP32 allows you to emulate an enormous range of classic systems, is open source so you can explore doing a bit of your own development and has lots of great home brew games. Even if there's no-one developing for it this time next year it'll still be a great little handheld for portable emulation! Get one and ignore the naysayers!!!! :) Happy Christmas.

Yeah, the only thing I wouldn't like about the GP32 BLU at the moment is the BLU+ (one with the Taiwanese screen). I'm waiting a while to see if Gamepark might switch back to the Samsung screen, and if it doesn't, I'll just get it. I already have a FLU, but the BLU has a much better screen.

Anyway, aside from the above reason, I would recommend getting a GP32.

Hell Yeah!
Gp32 is an excellent portable emulation machine. But wait theres more, you can use it to watch movies, play mp3, and quite a bit more. Plus there are some great homebrew games for gp32.

Its always a good time to own a gp32

Now is a great time if you are looking for good genesis emulation. Reesy is working on an excellent emulator that is very stunning at the moment, with z80 sound. And hes continuing to work on it, hell id say that we may have 99% perfect genesis emulation fairly soon.

Reesy is God! :D

If you get a gp32_console i am sure that you will not regret it. I sure Didn't!!! :D :D :D :D

B) gp32_console

I would say get one because even if the scene died next week, there is still plenty of games/emus/apps out there to play with and never get bored.

All we can really say is look at posts like our FAQ for decisions like this, since it comes down to your personal preference. I mean, what if you only use handhelds while masterbating to the tune from Leave It To Beaver? We'll never figure out stuff like that, so really can't give you a "yes, go for it" or "no, it's not for you". Of course everyone here will blindly endorse it regardless.

By the way, that was a completely hypothetical scenario...right?
