I bought Gamesmaster's latest issue and it claims that the PSP will retail in Japan at around £107. There's also another package with memory stick and headphones if you pay £30 extra. I want one :D

Where and when did you order?

I've got one ordered for myslef but am a bit worried about the shortages.

importing a jap one would be impractical as all the games are in japanese till the us launch

with the dollar the way it is it would make much more sense, from an economic pov that is, to import from the states.

has anything been announced with regards to region lock out yet?

Games like need for speed can easily be played by an American audience, and the system is universal, us games work on japanese systems and vice versa. Importing one is a fine idea in my opinion, nfs underground on the go just can't be substituted with anything else.

It might be a good idea to import form the US while the dollar is weak, If you ordered before the US release though, you;d still be paying the japanese price. If you waited for the US release you could at least get games in english.

The conversion is about About 200 bucks give or take for the PSP and $260 for the large bundle with the memorystick and stuff.

They're generally being forced to spend 10 dollars more for the PSP than we are.

OK u guys i have a question, I know that the PSP is going to be all region allowing u to play US games on the Japan release unit, what about the internet capabilities? Do u think that the Japanese model will be able to connect to the internet the same as the ones released here in the States?

I myself was considering importing one on 12/12 but because of this im having second thoughts. Well if anybody can clear this up that would be of real help.

Thanks in advance :)

how much does each game cost?

if its like £10 a game I would buy one :p.

See here's the thing though. They never directly said the movies would be region protected. The IGN article that stated there'd be no lock out on games only suggested there might be some sort of lock out for movies. Instead Sony's response to it was saying something to the effect that yeah you can buy what ever software you like but by the time something hit's your region the hardware/player may have changed in some way they it reduces the effectiveness of your software and that you're on your own if something gets FUBAR'D.

I think it would be difficult to do region protection on portables for the same reason the Gameboys have never been region protected. For a device like this it's easier to have the same technlogy in every unit unless you're performing a product wide revision. Think of it like tape players or CD players, there's not really any protection against importation, in fact in New york you can go to any number of stores and by imported music. This might be one reason so many people are slow to allow their movies on UMD, because there may be no real protection outside of hoping that people wait to buy videos in their own language.

I hope that the media gets duplicated soon , kinda like the GBA flashcarts
then we could have our own movies on discs, cause I dont care what system its for, I dont want to buy a movie I own just to go portable with like 2 exceptions
I cant wait till they crack it
or maybe just enough to put a movie on the Memory stick ( 1 gig should be good size stick )

Not sure how easy it would be to make a 'flash cart' for the PSP for the same reasons as the Gamecube Discs. The Memory stick seems to be more viable althoguh it would depend on how the OS would work.
