Overclocking Question

When someone says their GP32 runs at 166MHz but can overclock to, say, 178MHz, does it mean it can safely run at that speed but they haven't tested it yet, or something else?

Well I don't have a GP32 yet. That's why I'm asking because I'm interested in one that someone is selling.

the gp32 normally runs at 66mhz and every gp is guaranteed to overclock to 133mhz, but many gp32 can go higher (its just luck).
At gbax you can buy a guaranteed 166mhz or 188mhz, then its guaranteed to overclock atleast 166mhz or 188mhz, but you'll have to pay a little more.

No, definitely no.
Commercial games run at 66 Mhz in order to save batteries and also because they don't need to run at more.

The GP32 cpu is a certified ARM9 133 Mhz WITHOUT overclocking. :)

You can say "overclocking" only over 133 Mhz (or 132, but it's not important).

133mhz is the maximum speed in the specs. It is definately not overclocking.
Over 133mhz, it is called overclocking but...

Technically, it's not overclocking because when its running at
that speed, it doesn't heat up any more than when its not
(no heat comes out anyway) and it can't get damaged, the worst
thing that'll happen is restart.
All it needs is a within specification voltage mod
(that's what the guaranteed 166mhz ones are) and some will run over 133
without one, but its really just random. How fast your gp32 can go to is how fast
it goes without eventually restarting.
