Tonight With Trevor Mcdonald: Video Game Violence

I can't believe I missed this :(.
Remember MAVAV?
Also I think if anyone felt the need to kill a fellow human being because of a fictional game, I believe he's stupid. I mean for example, GTA's graphics are so unrealistic I don't know how anyone could take them seriously. Also Manhunt is so fictional and wacky also Halo, I mean c'mon we're shooting aliens, we're saving the world! And the Aliens at the beginning look so pathetic, they're funny!

I still don't understand why Postal 2 got left behind, I mean that's by far the most realistic. But yet again, it's fiction, there's a boundry.

The most amusing part of all this is there's a thing called ratings which all these angry mothers seem to forget, if you break the law and let your children play games that aren't for them YOU should accept the reprecutions made from YOUR desicions. My parents let me play SOF, GTA and Postal 2 and I'm fine from it. I've also played games in the past where I've killed players who are there on a chair in real life. At the end of a game most people use the classic "gg" standing for "good game" and that's exactly what it is; a game.

EDIT: Also you know when yo9u see a film that really makes you think "that's horrible" or something along those lines for example "8mm", "The Pianist" or "Clockwork Orange". But they're all made for a reason, to put across a point.

I've never been sickened by a game because I can't take them as seriously as a film, the day we're have a real problem on our hands is when we get real life graphics etc...
But I belive that a game like GTA is putting across the fact that there is something "cool" about the gangsta life style but why not waste time killing and hurting people and risking your own life when you can simulate it on a screen.

Meh, parents try to control everything their kids are watching or playing - it's just innocent desire to save them from 'corruption' and they are oblivious to how stupid their actions can often be. It'll happen to YOU someday.

Some parents don't control them enough, GTA shouldn't be played by 10 year-olds but plenty of parents just aren't bothered.

there was a thing on PBS last month that was talking about this exact thing. but they saw both sides and let you choose. and I'm just curious if anyone has seen bowling for colinbind ( I think I spelled it wrong) the parents had blamed the video games. I mean cmon people think about what the hell your kids are doing if they are in a basement all day U should be suspicious. END OF STORY!

They usually deem the graphics as irrelevent as they tend to talk about the 'conditioning' of the player wanting to 'kill'.

There are 'some' valid points in the arguement but is hidden behind all the crap that is shown to us...

My usual counter arguement is: 'Games are rated for a reason!'

I play a lot of Quake 3 online and the number of times people type LOL or LMAO due to some hillarious onscreen action would amaze the idiots that oppose violent video games. I have been known to the spray the screen with coffee due to something daft happening in a game.

Next week's episode - Are video games like Mario causing people to die of eating poisonous fruits and berries?
"Timmy Turner the 3 year old had been playing mario for the last week when he decided to go out to eat a toadstool...."

They completly discount the fact that it takes monthes of rigerous military training to use a sniper rifle well, but you could learn how to use one in a few gaming sessions of Halo. That makes sense.
