I have now nearly finished Shenmue 1 for the Dreamcast after being told that it is a great game.

I think it was more boring than watching flies fuck.

The first two or three hours the voice acting was funny, but then it just got stupid. All the time I waited for the game to get better, now I have beaten the 70 enemy challenge or whatever it is called and it still is boring. The story is not so great either.... why do people like this game? And will, in your honest opinion, Shenmue 2 entertain me better than 1?

hehe, Shenmue :) Yep it is boring for me as well, but looks impressive. I know people who just love this game, I never finished this game as it was plain boring to me. But you know, it's just matter of personal preferrences :)

you can get games to play on the sega saturn in your room! and tapes and stuff. I have to finish shenmue 2 soon.

I know about the tapes, but about a million sources say it is impossible to play on the Sega Saturn. How exactly would I do that?

I do not want to bash Shenmue. But why do people love this game so much? It seems that basically you run around and talk to everyone hoping that the story will continue if you piss off enough people... the QTEs are kind of cool, but there are too few to really make a difference to me. The fights, while not great, provide some entertainment as well, but those also were too few. Furthermore, they are easy. I have yet to find a fight that I can not win by standing still and exectuing the same old attack every time an enemy gets close to me. Why do I train the moves? In the end it seems to make no real difference at all.
The end of disc 3, which is what I am playing right now, is not as bad as the beginning. The story climaxes, increasing the number of action sequences I get, which I like. But the rest.... there is this attempt to be lifelike which is being thwarted by an absolutely emotionless protagonist (yes, I know there are times when he shows emotions, but those always seem forced to me).

I love Shenmue 1 and 2 although 2 was my favourite. I just loved the final area although I bet most people would hate it.

The fourth disc of Shenmue 2 was quite possible the most amazing gaming experience I have ever had. ;)

Shenmue is absolutely the most unique experience you will ever find on a console. I understand people that don't like it because, yes, it is slow. But putting the pieces together, seeing the next cutscene had to be the most rewarding thing I have ever had to do in a video game. Just think of it as a supercharged adventure title (ala Grim Fandango). The Shenmue games are without a doubt my favorite game of all time.

And anyone who enjoyed Shenmue should check out this game. It looks to be a Shenmue-style adventure set in New York City. Very dark, very cool. B)

I don't know. I thought it was good but repetitive, but still I don't think it was a bad game.

Despite sluggish controls and annoying 'dead time' between events, shenmue managed to grab my attention and keep it, I found the detail breath taking. I've just finished disc 1 of the second game and I'm loving it so far but I just don't have the time to devote to it and I find I forget what was going on in the game quite quickly.

Well, I thought the diary was a genius idea

after completing Shenmue 1 (only completig about half my diary) I played Shemue 2 and got my stuff stolen

I thought this would be a good reason to start Shenmue 1 again (bout a month later) try to finish the diary and buy a load of stuff at the end that wouldnt get nicked in 2

Needless to say it was miles better the second time round

I knew what i was doing and I NEARLY completed the diary, but i missed a couple of pages of stuff

but it is the only adventure game I have ever played wothout resorting to a FAQ on the internet. Not because it was easy, but because I felt I NEEDED to do everythng myself otherwise it would ruin the game

this has inspired me to make a new sig and avatar of shenmue :D

Played shenmue 1 it sucked the big one. Dissapointing game from SEGA looked good and all but was sooooo damn boring.
