I know there is the current listening thread but what are your top five bands/groups of all time. ( NO ABBA)
1. Incubus- a mix of jazz and rock put together the best it could be
2. Red hot chilli peppers, how could I forget them
I don't really hae any others :(

1. Curve - ahead of there time.. infusing pop and industrial sounds.
2. Nirvana - Enuff said liked them since they first hit the scene
3. Smashing Pumkins - Pure quality shame they split
4. Sugar - emotional guitar-led pop-punk, Copper blue probably one of the best indie albums of the 90's
5. Way out West - Ecletic dance act.

Basically i love pretty much all the tracks and all their albums :p
Unfortunately only 2 of the above still release stuff but even then its rarely, quality over quntity B)

I no particular order

1. Spitfire - intensely emotional and highly technical HXC, with more than a hint of metal influences...worth a little taste at least
2. Descendents - 80's godfathers of the genre now overloaded with Blink182 and their cloans...get "Clean Sheets" or "Silly Girl" to hear them at their best.
3. Thursday - great Rock. yes War All The Time was a quality follow up to Full Collapse...ignore the ney sayers, plus they are one of the best live bands on the planet.
4. Red House Painters - Incredible lyrical content and fantastically honest sounding music make them one of the best Sub-pop or acoustic based bands EVER.
5. Sunny Day Real Estate - if you need an introduction just get "Circles" and then fall in love with their timeless sound as much as I did.

a cheeky 6th Refused - pioneers of the truly awesome fusion of Jazz, punk, hardcore and even folky pop...The Rise now carry the torch that this band started.
unnecessarily cheeky 7th Biffy Clyro....just plain great, see them in a small venue for the best results B)

I've liked loads of bands over the years but my favourite band of all time is Iron Maiden. The albums Number Of The Beast, Piece Of Mind, Power Slave and Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son are my favourites (although there have been many more). A great rock band. :)

Hmm, not easy.

Not really in order:

The Beatles - sorry to be obvious but let's face it they were the best
Pulp - shame their popularity was so short-lived, they deserved more recognition
The Beach Boys - Brian Wilson is a crazy genius
U2 - 83-91 they were stunning
The Divine Comedy - you either love them or hate them
ABBA

Aye, I was just winding you up. They're by no means the worst pop group though, hell I'd rather listen to them than Nirvana! But that's just me :p

ROCK?!?! ROCK!!!!

Thursday aren't rock, they're little whinging emo boys! saw that at reading and saw them at a headline show earlier in the year, he nearly cried on stage because we were such a great audience!
And War All The Time sucked ass, check out there debut.
If you want better stuff along the same line check out glassjaw, taking back sunday, thrice, mars volta, sparta!

Now, my top five...

311 - Chilled out pop-funk

Taking Back Sunday - The Daddies of the modern post-hardcore scene, their new album wipes the floor of all the other drivel.

Coheed & Cambria - Geek hardcore, kinda prog sounding

Glassjaw - The one and only, the sound and the lyrics go together to create a powerful yet beautiful sound

Barenaked Ladies - they're great, no substitute

dude, I am sorry but I have been a long time follower of Thursday, I have their debut and have seem them twice in the Astoria. They are very good live and pretty heavy considering how they come across on CD. For the record I have also seen TBS and Brand New, both are not my kind of thing. I find them generic at best and at worst boring.

its not a jibe at you its just making clear that we see things differently...so well...lets learn to love again hahaha ;)

Ive got too many bands and styles i listen to to name a top 5 but ill take one from each style or a group of.

Rock (classic)- Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Pink FLoyd etc etc.

Metal- Megadeth, Avenged Sevenfold, Slayer etc etc yadayadayda.

Hip-hop (a newly acquired style for my listening)- Immortal technique, NWA, Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, Canibus, EPMD, Zack De la Rocha.

Fusion- Rage Against the Machine (possibly my favourite band :)), Nine Inch Nails. (theres more but cant b bothered).

Blues- Clapton, The blusebreakers (Clapton), B.B. King, John Lee Hooker, Chuck Berry etc etc.

At the moment I'm mostly listening to:

Brand New
Inspectah Deck
Powderfinger

Groove Armada

I'm not interested whether you think they aren't hardcore or whatever. They have some cool music and it's what's cyclin on my playlist most at the moment :).
