Usb Working !!!! On Gp32linux :)

nice :)

but we are looking to make some battery adaptor or something
so we can have all sort of usb devices working
with a nice little usb hub, you could have some wifi & some hdd & why not some
usb micro, so you can use it as a voip device ?

aaaahhh
cant wait to make some tests tomorrow
and i ve got the new flash player to make , the new web browser ...
work and short nights ....

anyhelp welcome as usual
[ like making some summary /faq of the gp32linux post on the forum, seeking for ipaq/zaurus/yopi developper

Will you be able to use it for swap space, so the gp32 can run apps in more than 8mb?

Hang on a minute, this means you can use external devices etc within Linux itself but does it follow that emulators etc will recognise this filesystem? Do they run inside or outside of Linux as FXEs in their own right? If they still run outside then they won't take advantage of this yet will they?

Sorry if that sounds dumb, I haven't managed to get GP Linux to work yet so I'm a bit in the dark...

But even if that doesn't work, you can still swap files from your hdd or usb stick to the smc! :D

GPlinux is the only .fxe once u load it it has its own binaries, but they still need to take less than 8mb, unless some kinda swap is used. :D

Cool :D

would Gp32 Linux beable to boot from usb media ?

hmm wrote my comments about this in the other thread...
but what do you think about a complete forum on gp32x for gplinux?
i think that the people get more and more intrested in gplinux so i think a own forum would be a good idea.

my idea and no one postad a response :(
http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?showtopic=11354
I still think it would be good to have its own forum

The usb support is through linux so only linux applications have access to usb memory sticks or hard disks.

what voltage does the EXT pump out? Is the EXT output only 3volts?

- yes we can use some usb storing device as swap device
i will have to make some tests, to see if it s fast enough, ...

- i will try when i have time to compile on gp32linux, so i will have less
problems with cross compiling some applications

my Idea was, If the EXT Pumps out 5volts, you could wire the drive the the EXT positive pin :D

Get a EXT Connector and just use Pin 1 (+) and Pin 18 (-) and link it to the HDD's + and - But I think the EXT is only 3volts :(

I usually build the kernels myself, but after i discontinued the snapshot, i deleted all my working dirs, so... Did anyone build a kernel including usb support yet? I just built an adapter and am eager to try...

EXT provides 3.3v, so that wouldn't work. But if you're feeling bold, I believe the GP32 uses 5v internally.

mmhmhmm how? because call me stupid if you want but dont two aa add up to 3v?

Does it draw more power somehow?

Theres these nifty littly things that step up the voltage :D

woooaahh seriously

theres me googling my heart for a cheap supplier of lithium power cells

anyway what exactly is this nifty little thing and where can i get one because if this usb support is as cool as i think it is going to be I see myself doing a lil modding to my gp32 ;)

Do you mean a potential divider, surely you could make a potential divider to set the votage up from 3.3v to 5v from the Ext. It's late and I've got school tomorrow but it would only need two resistors to do it, if I had a multimeter I'd mock one up on my bread board.

EDIT: You'd need to increase the voltage by 1.5151......, I think the formular is V in x R2/(R1+R2) = V out. Pleae could somebody corret me if I'm wrong.

Merged EDIT: Scratch That, in fact you'd need a small step-up transformer. As a potential diver can only split voltage. Now seeya in the tomorrow afternoon. I'm tired.

[Mod - Obviously too tired to use the 'Edit' feature in the bottom-right.]

Ooooh... if I could get that to work with my little wifi stick (about the size of a USB jump drive) and it worked with a chatboard (which GP32 Linux does, AFAIK) I could friggin surf the web with my GP32, and the library at my school is a hotspot, so I could use my GP32 to go to sites they normally would not like and they wouln't even notice :D

Thank you, Toholl :D
