i've seen the chess news and it reminds me of my eternal question. is there a go board game for gp32? native or for emulated systems)

i think someone else posted the same question but its very hard to search the term go (on the boards and on the internet) so if someone knows one i'll be very pleased.

Heh - there actually *is* a Go board for the GP32, though it is very very very old. Check out PDRoms. No AI in there, and I don't know if all the rules are in it or not (does it, for example, recognise suicides or a Ko? Calculating scores? Dead pieces?).

Just got into the game myself after watching Hikaru no Go; darn good anime (remarkably... there's no bad guys, and a lot of what they spout in the anime is actually useful for playing the game in the first place :) ).

Oh, and the game is actually called Igo; just most of us in the West call it Go. Its also called Baduk in Korea and something else again in China...

Ok, so I know too much about this lol...

For those who haven't got a clue what this is, imagine a board 18x18 squares (though you actually play on the intersections of the lines, so 18x18 is really 19x19). There are two colours of stones - white and black. Black plays first - and who is black is decided, traditionally, by a process called nigiri (basically, the younger player guesses whether the older player has taken an odd or even number or stones from their pot; if they get it right, then they are black).

Play proceeds with each player laying stone after stone, attempting to gain as much of the board as possible without making themselves vulnerable to the other player taking their pieces or their territory. You take a piece - or a group of pieces - by surrounding them on all sides (except the corners).

For more info, and an interactive tutorial, have a look here http://www.playgo.to/index-e.html

wooo what great timing , i got bak form anime convention the other week , where someone taught me GO! , it roxxors , i want to play ^_^

How about an emulated Go game ? I can't remember any, but there should be at least one on SNES. You should search for "IGO" (that's the japanese name).

At a brief look there are quite a lot on SNES, though I've not tried any. All those I've seen, though, are in Japanese, which might make playing them a little awkward. Might - at least, inasfar as navigating the menus and such are concerned, if they are actually in Japanese (a lot of Japanese roms for PCE had menus in English, regardless of in-game content, so many of them may be usable...)

Yep... all 75 in 4 days... The game in life might not be as powerful as in the series, but the online versions are many and varied, and watchig them is actually remarkably fun. Yahoo's OK, but IGS is great with the right client - just play social people if you can, and you'll end up chatting and Go-ing at the same time. Which is good :)

yep i've found one. "igo club" for SNES. it's only in japanese but with a couple of random clicks aaaand you're playing. it also has a bit advanced a.i.

nothing like othello mate , tiles are single coloured , and can be removed from the board under circumstances ,
points are given when areas are secured, not for how many pieces are on the board

on that hand , is there an othello game ?
