I do think he is being a bit nitpicky with the case and keymat....

But this is his baby so I'll get it when it's ready.
This is a good thing. I am the same way, so if he can get it up to his own standards I probably won't have anything that I feel should have been improved. As Grench said, the keyboard is one of the most important parts of a device like this, and deserves the extra attention to get it right. (I am in agreement with you, and just adding on to what you said, as others did.)

WHAT HAPPENED, "Link"? Did Craig kill your business? Why did your online presence go down? Your customers/fans want to know.
[doublepost=1488698562,1488698192][/doublepost]I wanted to order items from you and your shop was down. Now it's being constructed, but the website doesn't look like anything that I've seen.
[doublepost=1488698815][/doublepost]I'll agree with rygD, the "keyboard" for me is also the most important. I need to type on it, quickly.

Link has been around, just not all that active. He may have been busy with other business. Once the Pyra is available I suspect he will get back to that site/shop.

Okay. I'd just like to see a North American representative for the best/quickest distribution of Pyra's..... I had the QUICKEST and BEST experience when I dealt with Link. He got me my 1 GHz Pandora within the same week. The real "link" in Connecticut. I'm not sure who this new guy is yet. If he's really Link, then I wholly endorse him.
[doublepost=1488700732,1488700464][/doublepost]The distribution thing just makes sense. The Pandora and the Pyra will have more AMERICAN customers than any other country. That's just the way that it is and will always be. We love electronics and we love things like the Pyra. We put these tiny devices to work, and pleasure.

Bad news?
All these posts from ED with small updates, improvements, fixes and his eye for detail make me more and more confident that the Pyra will become an excellent product.
Don't get me wrong, I don't care if it takes two more years to finish the Pyra (my current estimate is end 2017 to start 2018).
I am very happy to read over and over that ED is working hard on quality improvements. I know the man pays great attention to details. I respect him for that and that's why I have no problem waiting for the end product. That does not mean that the project never challenges my patience. We all want it...

Unfortunately, from a timeline perspective his posts can easily be summarized as "sorry guys, not there yet". I am glad that he provides us these insight into the project and all the nitty gritty details of that process. Perhaps I am getting my hopes up too much by expecting to see more checkboxes ticked off.
@Caine: I dont get your sadness, read the quote of ED below:
<snip>
Yes you are right, perhaps I am focusing too much on the half of the glass that is filled with air instead of liquid.

It is strange, that on the last stretch of the road, it seems that more and more people are getting impatient or maybe a bit nervous.
Makes perfect sense to me. With the end in sight you start dreaming about all the nice stuff you can do with it, only to realize it is still just out of reach.

I am very glad he is, the Pandora shoulder buttons were horrible. Let him take all the time he needs and I'll happily complain about first world problems along the way :p

Thanks for challenging my grumpiness guys. I need that every once in a while. Sorry for getting in a negative mood on occasion :(

As you said, we all want it. I think we would all prefer to have it already. I think where we differ is the patience and acceptance of the last few things that make it better.

I would rather wait a little longer so that things like the case/keymat fitting and the shoulder buttons can be made better. I probably would have picked up on the rubbing and tightness of the keys. Other things that have been improved are the stencil for the primer and the new silicone that will be tested. Eventually you get to a point where you aren't actually making tangible improvements, you are just changing things, but since we have other things preventing immediate mass production, I like that other things are being looked at.

I would like to have the Pyra this year, and it would be great to have it by my birthday. If it doesn't happen, I wait. I mean, it is only Two Months, no big deal.

It's not an enviable position, being the Pandora and now the Pyra fan. It's always a waiting game. It's only natural that we can turn on each other. I love these people...like a man that's rolling in the river with a Rhino...

The money I've paid for my preorder is worth it just for the insight into this development process.
You know, there is enough material to do a documentary on it.

Even though there are some hurt feelings, I think Craig should be involved. Maybe some people from other companies could be interviewed.
[doublepost=1488722278,1488722076][/doublepost]If only there was someone that could film a documentary on the Pandora and Pyra. Someone with the knowledge of the Pyra and everything that is going on with it, who to talk to, and that also has the skills and equipment to make a film...

No, business is still operating and we intend on relaunching the shop when the Pyra is released. Feel free to PM me if you are interested in anything that was in the shop, I'd be happy to help you or anyone else out on the limited Pandora stuff that remains. Luckily some of the inventory will be compatible with the Pyra and accessories for it, so there will be some stuff from the past and new items geared toward the Pyra.

Link has been around, just not all that active. He may have been busy with other business. Once the Pyra is available I suspect he will get back to that site/shop.

Been in a long term lurk mode to let the dust clear. I have been busy with some other things and look forward to the release of the Pyra.

I don't want to speak for @Link, however I think he still intends to sell to North American customers.

We plan on setting up a supply line for the Pyra coming into the US. Just waiting for the Green Light from Germany.

What would be gained from this? I don't think many of us would trust him enough to pay for a Pyra via him and trust him with that money for however long, even once they become off-the-shelf units that are in stock. On a personal level, I wish the man luck, but I get the feeling his talents don't lie in fulfulling orders and being self-employed. Maybe I'm wrong though - I get the impression he sourced a lot of gp2x units for UKians during those days. Either way, managing a project like the Pandora or the Pyra is not something that fit his particular skillset, it seems to me from afar, and I wouldn't trust him just yet to make trust him to supply me an order worth a few hundred quid.

I still think ED should talk to the computerphile folks (Sean at Nottingham Uni that is), when he has finished fettling the Pyra and is down to merely editing professional videos for TV and running a successful web shop, and assembling and repairing Pyras, GPD devices, and other bits and pieces. When he's merely doing all of that, he might have time to talk to Sean.

I think waiting for quality is excellent; we cannot expect any of this coming from a knock off factory: I got the gpd windows thing and the Mipad 2. Both are okish but still do not hold a candle to the Pandora. Sure that is mostly software and ARM (battery life) but to me it shows how far 'the market' is removed from my goals. I applaud ED for focusing on quality and not just shipping shit that 'kinda works'. Like the rest, even big brands do.

Firstly, I got the impression rygD meant he should be involved in the documentary being discussed rather than anything to do with the distribution or development of the Pyra.

Secondly though, I actually would consider him a fairly competent shopkeeper and distributor, even now. If he were to set up a new shop I wouldn't see any reason not to let him distribute the Pyra if he had a mind to. (EDIT: or not to buy one from him if he did) It's just anything involving project management or product development that I wouldn't trust him with. *shrugs*

Yeah, but Craig lied to backers of the icp2. He told us units would be ready by december. He knew there was no chance of that. The nubs firmware, I think it was, or some m weston work was a long way from completion. No icps could be shipped in december. B.s. I paid him 600 dollars in good faith. He also ripped ed off to the tune of thousands. He never paid for the 1ghz units ed shipped him. I think maybe 150 units or so. Literally 5 digit figures. No. I would not trust him with money again. Not for the price of a goldfish... but things were never dull here on the boards with craig.

I was burned on the ICP2 too. Thing is, I believe that he had every intention of keeping his promises, he just fatally botched the execution. I would never support one of his proposed or WIP projects again, but when he's actually selling products that he has in stock, he has a track record of delivering the goods.

Here we go again. This thead is about status on the Pyra and not about someone else. Let's stay on track lol.
