Sorry to be remarkable rude but i'm extremely against christianity. Reasons you ask well here we go............:

1. It's homophobic.
2. It's a religion based on "peace and love" yet the "God" of this insane religion happens to be the biggest mass muderer of all time, flooding the whole world because they weren't perfect for him. "Aww what a nice story and he gives us a rainbow so we don't give a shit awww"
3. "Thou shall not kill" but in the time of the crusades you were granted passage to heaven if you killed a Muslim. Yeah that's right.... yeah...
4. It's all bs that is made to make a nation stronger.
5. Most of the Bible (well the shitty miracles) has contradicted science at every given opportunity.
6. The usual one: Why do no miracles happen today and why doesn't jesus's spirit appear and why doesn't god give us the thumbs up every now and again.
7. The Bible is full of sexist comments.
8. The best one: IT'S A LOAD OF BS THAT CONTRADICTS ITSELF MANY A GOOD TIME.

That's why I'm an atheist and I can't understand how anyone can be taken in by the nice promises, commercialism and "niceness" of Chrisitanity.

Goodbye and Goodnight.

TBH I agree with some/ all of that ^_^.

If I where to choose a religion it would be Buddhism (sp?) but im not religious at all. I wish I was tho... no afterlife scares the shit out of me :(

The missing first page of the Bibal was found today. It reads in bold Italic writing " This book is a work of fiction. No characters are based on real people no matter how familiar they seem

but also who the fuck are you praying to?
Praying sadly can not help at all. Unless of course you believe in it but that's just you thinking it will work.

This may all be true according to the old testament but how many Christians actually believe the old testament to be true? None that I know, probably some crazy people in America do but most don't.

Most Christians try to live good lives and go to church on sundays and that's about it.

For the record I don't follow any religion, they've caused the vast majority of wars throughout history (Hinduism apart, that's a lovely religion).

@sam fisher

that was red dwarf, the one where they get a delivery of mail and either lister or rimmer, pretty certain its rimmer, finds out his dad is dead, yes its diffinitely rimmer, as lister the reads the letter to him and says

"i regret to inform you that your dad is dad" well thats bloody stupid, of course hes your dad, oh no wait

i am totally and utterly unreligious. i don't believe that science has all the answers, darwins theory is flawed in the fact that no half way remains have been found of humans, no conclusive proof exists of our evolution. i like to think its all part of a bigger thing across the universe that somehow relates to the x files.

re christians, the ones i've experienced, i cannot stand. for all the reasons above, plus we have a thing at my school called christian union, where they all get together and pray. every now and then they have an open session where they get a panel of christians and a panel of non-christians to debate a subject that has no clear divide between believers and non. the christians will then counter any point you make by some reference to the bible, which of course needs no further backing up as its the bible.

also, i was watching some shitty late night tv last night and it was a teen chat show about fame. they had some fat christian guy who chatted some random crap about how people should try and attain gods love as opposed to fame, told everyone that he didn't drink, do drugs, have a good time at all, and was still a virgin but was "living a totally radical life for jesus". i smashed my fist into the tv and cried.

Agnostic here. That's because you can't actually DISPROVE God... although there is no proof of god either, so IMO things like that are on par with ghosts and loch ness monsters; there is little proof, but you can't rule out the possibility. Science has already explained some things that were once thought to be supernatural - for example, that thing of finding water underground with just a stick; I watched a show once which explained how it worked.

However, there's a GOOD MANY things in the Old Testament that go against TONS of factual evidence.

And no afterlife doesn't scare me. We're all made up of chemicals anyway, your mind too. When you die, you decompose. While you're alive, though, you might as well follow a course of actions that will give you enjoyment; if I help someone in need, it's because I know that it'll give me a good feeling, not because I'm afraid of going to hell.

The way I look at it is that I think there's something going on that we cant explain, but I'm not arrogant enough to presume I know what it is....

I'm a spiritual person - I've seen to much unexplainable stuff not to be, but I dont necessarily subscribe to any doctorine.

If others decide to, then so be it, as long as they see my point of view too. Like I said - for all I know, there may be a God, but neither I, nor anyone else, can provide proof, so there is no way I could blindly accept that as fact.

But I'm very open minded....

As for the Bible - it's an interesting book, full of symbolism and signs of the time in which it was written. It is, unfortunately, not all relevant in todays world. It was written in a time where we understood much less of the world around us, and as always, human nature dictated that we provide those explanations, no matter how bigoted or outlandish. The majority of the Bible suggests living a life in which you help others live in harmony with each other. Unfortunately, there are parts which do not, and it is those parts that have been twisted to meet people's needs and hunger for power for the last several thousand years.

Also, the translation from Hebrew and Aramaic to Latin and English is so increadibly open to interpretation that the whole thing could be translated to mean a whole new set of things if taken in different context and so forth.

The terrable trush about the bible and many other religeous texts is that it has been sculpted to further the opinions and beliefs of the ages in which it has been interperated and translated. This has usually ended up with an outcome that the original authors would definitely not have approved of.

I do, however, agree with a Chrstian outlook on life - that you should do all you can to help others and live your life well and productively...

Ah well...!

i am totally and utterly unreligious. i don't believe that science has all the answers, darwins theory is flawed in the fact that no half way remains have been found of humans, no conclusive proof exists of our evolution.

Yes, there IS conclusive proof of evolution!

Actually, never mind. Here's a little essay I wrote a while ago for Gr. 12 Biology...

It is interesting to see that in our age of great scientific understanding, the majority of the populace is still very much ignorant of science, especially if science and its own personal beliefs do not coincide. A good example of this is the cessation of the teaching of evolution in Texan schools, a decision lauded and praised by many who claim that evolution is “just a theory”. It is time, perhaps, to teach these people a few things about evolution that they seem to be conveniently ignoring, like for example the difinnition of a theory in the scientific sense.

Now a “theory” in everyday language means something altogether different from the scientific usage; it often means no more than a guess. In science, however, a theory is a way of explaining collected facts; the theory itself is conjecture, but the facts are irrefutable. Let us say, for example, that we are observing a patient sick with influenza, even though they received a vaccine against the virus only a year ago. We need to try to explain why they are sick; perhaps they are infected with HIV, or the vaccine was not properly administered? As we wonder about what may have caused this, we receive back DNA tests of the virus, and find that that the flu virus that this patient is sick with is not the one that they received the vaccine for a year ago; the virus has changed so much that the body’s immune system no longer recognizes it, and yet it shares the majority of its DNA with last year’s flu virus. We also receive the DNA tests of other viruses from across the city and find that all of them are similar to the first one, and none exactly the same as the strain that was there last year. This is an example of a collection of facts strongly suggesting that a species has changed; things like this are quite a common occurrence in microbiology. Now all that we need is a theory that would explain why the virus is so different from year to year (that it is different every year is a fact). Evolution states that the viruses which were different enough to resist the antibodies and medicines used against them to survive would have passed on their genes rather than ones which were very susceptible to the vaccinations of that year, and that this is why many viruses are changing from year to year. Many other facts exist that point to evolution as the theory explaining them.

The fossil record consistently shows a gradation of species from its lowest (oldest) layers to its highest (newest) ones. If the Earth is indeed only 6000 years old and all of these are fossils of organisms that perished in the flood and lived at the same time, there would be little or no layers in the rocks and the organisms would be spread out all over them; however, this is not the case – fossils in deeper layers of rocks consistently date older, except in the regions where geological overthrust has occurred. Another factor that suggests that organisms are related besides the fossil record is the DNA of many animals, which is much more similar in animals that are more closely related, such as mammals, rather than ones that are not, such as mammals and fish.

Other proof that evolution does, indeed, occur includes the distribution of animals along the surface of the Earth; again, more closely related ones often live closer together than ones that are not as related (ex. Mammals in Europe and Australia). Another piece of evidence is that the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, a series of steps that must be followed if a population is NOT to change (as Creationists claim), cannot be met in any natural conditions; for example, organisms do not choose their partners randomly, some individuals of a population are always better suited to survive in their environment than others, and it is a well established fact that mutations do in fact happen in the DNA of organisms.

Finally, it should be stated that those who believe that speciation has never been observed by anyone are in error. In 1964, Dr. D. J. Reish bred 5 or 6 polychaetes (Nereis acuminata) from Los Angeles/Long Beach Harbor to a size of thousands. In 1986, four pairs from this group were brought to Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution; the population at Woods Hole thus had gone through two bottlenecks, which are supposed to help drive evolution through genetic drift. In 1977-1978, two cultures of N. acuminata were again gathered from nearby Long Beach and Newport Beach, and grown under the same conditions as the Woods Hole sample. The three populations were later crossed, and it was found that the only crosses that would not produce viable offspring were the crosses involving the Woods Hole culture and the two new cultures. This signifies nothing less than speciation, so the critics who dismiss evolution as nothing more than a “theory” might as well try and offer their own explanation for the mechanism that makes species change over time instead of simply ignoring facts.

I do believe in evolution; there are some obvious things that proves it is real. My Grandad is weird tho... he believes in it yet he is a strict Roman Catholic (he is Sicilian) also he is married to a Protestant... fuck its all messed up lol. Anyways there is a hell of alot of evidence for evolution and u cant just dismiss it. And even if u r religious u cant say 100% of it is true.. they tell alot; some of it must be bullshit!

I'll never pray to a god I can't look in the face

And for 'god's sake, sam, it's "atheist". That goes double for you kknd since you were so proud of being one. Learn to spell your own belief system.

Atheist: A person whose worldview embraces Atheism [noun] [OW]. The natural condition of all humans at birth and prior to indoctrination in or self-invention of Theism. Atheists claim there is no proof for God. "Strong" Atheists claim God does not exist. "Weak" Atheists do not deny the possibility of God, or that proof might eventually be discovered. Athiest and Athesit are Fundie synonyms of Atheist [SD]. The word Atheism [CE] derives from the Greek atheos, a = without, theos = God.
