"Respects Your Freedom" certification?

As a Christian, I object to that license. It sounds too much like "Do what thy wilst".
So? It's not that genocide/rape/theft/masturbation/contraception becomes legal as long as you use a product coming with that license, is it?

Why not, if it's directly targeted at the topic? WAY better than creating a new topic for it.

Locking this would make no sense at all.
Usually the new post is about some new development and should be discussed separately. The old conversation may be relevant as historical reference, but the new discussion is not exactly a continuation as much as a sequel or commentary. The people that participated in the original are no longer around, things may have changed and wounds from heated arguments may have healed that should not be torn open. Moreover, when an old topic is gravedug, some people don't notice the timestamps and reply to the "latest" posts without reading through the whole thing resulting in repeated arguments and all kinds of noise.

It's better to keep discussions separated in time also separated in space.

wasn't C0 designed for this sort of thing?
CC0 isn't really a license, it's a waiver of rights with a builtin license fallback. In some countries like Germany the fallback part is the only thing that matters because public domain can only be achieved by being dead for a long time - the WTFPL directly addresses this case (and it came first).

As not a christian (not that religion has anything to do with licenses of this sort...) I object to people telling me I can't do what I want (or trying to have laws reflect their religious beliefs).

This is why when you say you're locking a thread you actually do it @Wally. Too late now people are talking...

there are quite a few things people will tell you not to do, that might offend you. but perhaps creating a law about keeping religion to oneself is equally offensive...

Yeah, well how about you respect my freedom! :p

Stop bumping old threads.

to try and put it back to the topic:

i think it's bad to force your own values (or religious beliefs) on others, but it's not bad to let your values (religious beliefs) influence the laws you want to put in effect. just try not to be too upset if you don't get your way if you're in the minority.

FSF definitely tries to recruit in a heavy handed way (perhaps a bit forcefully ;)), but they definitely have good values in an ideal world. (just, is there any path from here to there?)

Who asked for such a law?

But still, did you never want someone to stop spreading nonsense? Like nazis, capitalists, creationist, FOX, Kim Jong-un, classmates, ...

..., but it's not bad to let your values (religious beliefs) influence the laws you want to put in effect.
You mean like sharia, right?

doesn't mean i can force them to give up their beliefs. wouldn't that make me as "bad" as them? doesn't mean i can't argue with them, either. but that's what's necessary: a respectful dialogue. (from all sides.)

i'm not going to vote for sharia law, but it doesn't make sense to tell a predominantly muslim country to abandon it either. but it'd sure be nice to give women the vote...

if you don't want people making laws you don't want, then you'll have to set yourself up as supreme dictator, so that nothing gets past you...

in another world, you can allow people to make laws, without your permission... (but hopefully with your voice, if you do live in a country where that is possible.)

If you forced them, you'd be violent, but at least not abusive. They tend to be at least the latter, since their own, their familie's and their congregation's children are at their mercy when it comes to being thought. And since most so-called "believers" rather are convicted convinced to the bones, they teach their stuff as facts. That's not responsible and truthfull, it's abusive.
I'm fully aware, that they mean well and don't know better, which is why it's not them I detest, but religions (both those with and those without imaginary friends). To me a religion is a virus, and when attacking religious beliefs makes a carrier uncomfortable that's called fever. Now, let's cure the world.

I'm all for respectful dialogues, well-thought reasoning and mutually trying to understand the other side. But, have you yet to recognize, that there seems to be a subconscious defence mechanism at play triggered by sound reasoning and when activated making the host blind to reason and feeling utterly offended? Thus effectively meaning you can't argue with them? Yes, there are those who know that they don't know, but just belief, but those are halfway sane, so, low priority and I'm not that concerned with them right now.

I didn't say anybody should abandon their laws. I attacked your statement about theocracy not being a bad thing with an ugly example.

this sounds like the sort of rhetoric you'd hear from a fanatical religious person (just put in e.g. "the great Satan" for "religion"), or someone like Hitler on his quest to eradicate the Jews. anti-religion can become a fanatical "religion", too.

to put it another way, how can you say that all religions are bad, all value systems are wrong, except your own? that's almost worse than most religious positions on other religions (most will say there is at least some truth in others, just not the whole truth). and not letting parents teach their own kids their values sounds pretty bad, too.

obviously there are some issues with any religion, but don't you see that, when talking this way, you're just as much a part of the problem?

In the case of Nazi's you seem to be strongly anti Nazi just because you grew up in a bubble that was opposed to Nazism (but still strongly embraces their gedankten). Just like a vietnamese kid is still anti-american due to the clusterbombs that still cripple kids that wander off the paths (or that collect them for selling the metal).
... And just like the capitalist that likes capitalism because it defends his interests, because the 99% lets him... so he does!
Fox is not spreading nonsense. It's just a mass-pacifier and indoctrinator. And quite good at what they do. Do not believe that you are not subject to that indoctrination just because you do not watch Fox news... its permeated into your society in a truman-show way that you can not see nor detect.

As for the Sharia... you know... I learned Niggers had to be hanged, or at least tolerated (to be sold as slaves, hey, I live in the Netherlands... we still sell slaves... sex industry and such), and discriminated against them.
And yes, Niggers are still being killed and hanged. Ain't nothing changed. And as Chuck D points out: They still carry that jew-star mark: It says "negro" on their birth certificate. And if they did not have obvious "visible" traits... they would have been forced by white-man law to walk with a six pointed star with an N sewed to what they wore. When I look at afterwork hours outside the window of the place where I work for (an American company that also counted jews in the past)... when white management left already... I see hordes of black people coming in to clean the facility... not white people... just the darkest dark people... You see.. in OUR sharia laws... it's not women that can not vote/drive a vehicle... it's black folk (put just one voting booth for the whole district and such tricks).
Dont beleive me? There is this song: They see me rollin'... they hatin'... that lyrics is word... or any lyrics from Poor righteous Teachers or the new albums of Public Enemy... now I know you do not listen to those...
Now the good thing of this new slavery is: You do not need to house them in your own house. And if they get sick... you do not need to nurture them... just fire them!
I am just as appalled and afraid of Sharia as this "Freedom" (the main export product of US&A is Freedom).

As for the killings and (propaganda staged) beheadings: Ask a black man if it's better to rot in prison because you are black, or get a quick death.... same injustice... just different...

Now, would you like the blue pill or the red pill?
