What did you do over the weekend?

Did you paint your GP32 BLU black and silver, using Plastikote enamel spray paint?

Did you whack superbright LED's into it's Start and Select buttons?

You didn't?

Shame on you!

how much would you charge to do toher peoples Gp32's like that.....

:D _no seriously

Can you turn the LED's off or are they on all the time...???
Surely they distract the gameplay if they stay on...
It looks cool as something other than white.
Ok , where did i put that tin of Crown emulsion...

I could make a tutorial, would have to be with limited pics though (might get round to this)

The spray paint is kinda plastic based, and its had a few coats, as long as I look after it I should be ok in terms of getting marked, etc. I was gonna put a switch on to turn the lights on and off, but didnt. I may do this at a later date, as they are really bright. Having said that you get used to them after a while, and I find my thumbs are poised over both buttons a lot, which cuts out the light.

The paint makes a REALLY nice finish though.

Would I consider modding other peoples? Hmm, I did think about this, tbh you'd be better off doing it yourself. Disassembling the GP32 to spray it is easy enough. The LED's just run off the contacts that were used to power the FLU, so each LED gets 3.3v. A hole was cut into the sides of the buttons on the membrane(s), and the LED pushed in.

I wouldn't wanna break someones GP32 by dropping it or something. The LED's are really cheap, and the paint is only £5 per can iirc. (1 can covers 2meter squared I think). Check out:

I used one of the plastic adhearing sprays, black + silver enamel versions. There are other plastic adhearing ones that'd work too.

I'm yet to find out how much battery life will be shortened by the LED's, they are both ~30mA drain

[EDIT] will post some more pics later, it looks cool in the dark ;)

ok, can someone clarify this for me.

how "dodgy" is the removal of the front panel with regard to the flu?

i'm on my holidays now and have the prospect of putting in some long hours to get a really good paint job.

any guide with pictures would be good!

OMFG your gp looks damn slick... And minde dousn't  :p
Wow man, not a fan of the lights but that paint job is simply fire. How long did it take you to do and do you think it would work fine with a BLU? Again, nice job you sonofabitch

edit: btw, do the buttons stick at all? The joystick? whatabout the guide you plan to write? :p Please keep us posted as to if the paint wares off. That would suck. Thanks 4 the pics too ; )

It was a BLU that it was done on ;)

I also have a FLU case + buttons, etc, done in the same colours, but as it was my first attempt it looked a little "shiny". As my FLU broke, I decided to do the same ot my new BLU.

Even easier with a FLU as its easier to get the screen out.

NOTE: Be careful when taking a BLU screen out of the case. It is held down by some sticky stuff, and needs gentle prying in each corner, repeatedly. Just don't rush trying to get it off.

Buttons and joystick are fine, once the paint has dried it is just like they were originally that colour, its thin enough to not interfere with normal operation. I'll start a guide tomorrow for the lights, and one for using the spray paint I used.

Hopefully the paint will be ok. My sprayed FLU has been hanging around for about about 2 months, being handled, etc, and the paint has yet to wear off or get scratched or anything.

For those interested, I got my paint from farnell in the UK:

www.farnell.com

If you are not in the UK, and not in a country that farnell have an outlet in, you could try going the the Plastikote website, and finding a reseller that is based in your country, their website is really quite helpful.

Else you can get similar paint products from automotive shops, etc. Just make sure that they are able to bond to plastic.

A guide/tutorial will be forthcoming.
