i was trying to encode an episode of gundam seed, using the xvid codec and the latest version of Vdub, i did it as i always do it (on this pc, where it always works fine, haven't had the chance to try the files i have probs with it on this pc...), i do 2 pass encoding, the usual, for second pass i give a file size, and amazingly enough, vdub seems to ignore my filesize, it makes the file at least a minimum size, no matter what i say (i tryed various end sizes, all ended up with a file about the same size....)
i followed a good guide on the internet, had good experiences with it, untill this.. wtf is happening? why does it ignore the maximum filesize i demand?

Not to sound rude or anything, but are you considering the audio size on your calculations?

if you want a 20min 25mb file or so, the audio (from my experience) is about 4mb, so I use 21000kb as video file size and end up with a 25.1mb avi file. You just gotta take the audio into account of the final size.

Divx does this.

You can regulate the bitusage by adjusting the quantisizer settings

If you want the a precise filesize you should use XVID (koepi's build).

it is xvid, that's the problem
and yes i didn't forget to calculate the audiosize, i also said that changing the end size didn't doe much, so you could have guessed that wasn't the problem...
it's really strange...

You could remove all codecs and reinstall them.

Also, be sure you haven't got the framrate up to 25 or something.

no codec problem, pretty sure of that, i am using the right codec... (otherwise the gp32 wouldn't be able to read the file..)
lol, i don't forget about the framrate, don't worry :)
