wolly_wotsit made the thread about snes and genesis
this one is about n64 and ps1
n64 for me
it was my first console

N64 had some great classics, but no way would I take it over a ps1. It just had too many great games... and FF7 :D
edit: I agree with NssOne

I like Zelda Ocarina Of Time just us much as Final Fantasy VII (I'm playing it on my Gamecube currently - class game). I still think the N64 was a decent system but like triksR4rabits said too few decent games make it a challenge in this poll. I'm still voting N64 just for Zelda Ocarina Of Time though. :)

Thats a pretty tough decission. I had to go with the PSone, even though i loved my N64 I played my PSone a hell of alot more.

N64, the good games were brilliant and although there werent as many as the PS1 had (too many mediocre titles on the PS1 coz of no Quality control, which SONY is now pushing its luk with (see NEO GEO))

Who the hells gonna have a console then buy every game, it doesnt matter how many games its got, but how many excellent ones its got, I never saw the attraction to the FF series

But the N64 had:
Mario Kart
Blast Corps
OoT
Mario 64
Goldeneye
Perfect Dark
Beetle Adventure Racing
PoKEMON (YAY!!!!!!!!!)
Mystical Ninja
Mischief Makers
Mario Party 2
ISS 64/98/2000
Banjo Kazooie
Conkers Bad Fur Day

I could go on, but these were the games i had and thats y i love my Nintendo, whereas i guarantee 90% of PS1 owners will have a copy of FIFA, even tho ISS is the hnds dwon best football game (Pro Evo on PS1 same as ISS64)

amazing ps game:

Tekken series (tekken 3 is my favourite game ever......why were 4 and tag shit?)
Gran Turismo series
Crash Team Racing (i consider this better than mario kart)
Driver series
Gta series
Hogs of War (good at the time anyway and probably not the best example)
Silent Hill series
Syphon Filter 3
Tony Hawks series
Final Fantasy series
Crash Bandicoot series
Resident Evil series
Metal Gear Solid
Tomb Raider series (i didnt like it)

Tony Hawks and Resi were on the N64 too

I gotta agree with u on Tekken tho, tis a good game

I dont agree that Crash Team Racing is as good as Mario Kart, especially if its like Crash Nitro Kart, which is hoorendous coz the cameras too low

I also hate Metal Gear Solid, and I have had the chance to play the remake and I still hate it even tho I love the Gamecube

No-0nes ever gonna win, and I reckon if we each sat down and played the other console for a while u wud like it more, but I had an N64 and not a PS so i naturally leaned that way (especially since I already had a GB,SNES, NES, and a VB)

mattmagoo- ISS64 is nothing like the Pro Evo series. It is rubbish compared to ISS pro evolution soccer 1/2.

The PSone probably had the best library of games ever-

Suikoden 1/2, Final Fantasy 7/8/9, Chrono Cross, Xenogears, ISS Pro Evo, Metal Gear, GT,

the list could go on forvere, without even mentioning the cross machine titles.

The PS1 advanced amazingy in its time. Look at Suikoden/ FF7 compared to Chrono Cross/FF9. Its amazing. The N64 had to have extra hardware added and even then the games all looked the same.

Ur right about ISS, i swear i heard they were the same sumwhere

N E way, obviously u like RPGs so u wudnt like the N64 coz its main RPG franchises (Zelda, Mystical Ninja) werent serious RPGs, more like adventure games, I however loathed RPGs as they came into 3D, l loved Zelda, Dragon Quest, and even FF on the SNES, but i just cant stand to play a 3D RPG, which is y i love the N64, coz its got the games i play on, and the controller was nice

PS1 despite doing lots of evil also did some good. Some of my favourite games of all time are on that console (Suikoden 2!).
The N64 is the most over rated console ever, I bought one last year and all of those games people say are good on it...aren't. Mario 64 is a typical 3D platformer which brings shame upon the Mario name, Goldeneye is just a slightly above average console FPS (still unplayable despite being above average), Mario Kart is OK I suppose though I have the GBA version too so its rather pointless, the Pokemon games...Well I've grew out of them, Snap is OK though for Stadium I couldn't be bothered to play Pokemon blue again, Zelda is kind of like Mario- not very good in 3D it comes down to being a 3D platformer rather then the king of adventure games that other Zeldas are and Goemon is just like Zelda.

ok what should i do here i'm either going 2 buy a dream cast or a playstation 1 or a n64 off ebay for either party games orrrr 2 player guncon games my choice at the minute is between a ps1 orignal ( god they cost nothing ) with timecrisis + die hard with 2 guncon 45's ( do these have an kick back ) or a dream cast with what ever game supports gun con with some cyber something desert eagle light gun. Basically which would be better for party games etc i'm guessing i'd have 2 get the ps1 chipped bajhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhjhjhhhhh

But if u had an N64 when it was released you'd be lapping it up, so many game surpass Mario 64 and Goldeneye (Timesplitters 2)but they werent around so these games were cream of the crop at the time,

I bet if i bought a PS1 now i would not like any of the games (mayB a few) compared to what i can buy now

True the N64 suffers due to being outdated as do many of the PSX's games however the N64 has no games which are timeless due to using 3D for all of its games. The PSX on the other hand has a few which are still great (again I mention Suikoden!)

For what to get unlucky its a Dreamcast all the way, you can download DC games and play them without need for a mod chip or anything. Also with the PSX you can just wait a year or two until the PS3 comes out then get a PS2 at a super cheap price.
