Take a look:

http://exult.sourceforge.net/

It's SDL so the graphics end should be ok.. the original game ran at 320x240 though the SDL port will also run higher.. it is completely mouse driven. I'm not sure of the memory requirements etc.. and they already seem to have this going on the Zaurus.

Is anyone willing to take this on? It would take someone who has more experience porting than me to get something like this started and going in the right direction.. however, I would be willing to help out in any way I can. I am just an applications programmer. :)

This would be such a kickass game to carry around.. I would probably start taking the bus to work just to have an excuse!

One of my favourite games ever, but I've suggested this before and had no luck. Wish I could help but I'm hopeless at programming!

I'd happily pay for it on my GP32, it even made IGN's top 100 here. Of course they didn't even have Sensi in there so what do they know... :)

It would be a better idea to port Ultima VI (6) as an adaption of this game was made for the SNES. I've been waiting ages for an Ultima game to play on my GP32.

Actually, there's a lot of "Ultima"s already available :) - 1-4 or something on SMS/GG, and 1-6 on Atari ST... and a few on NES too, from memory. They might fill a gap :)

if you feel really evil you could play Ultima 7 on SNES...it's really, really bad. I'm pretty sure I got killed by a rat when I played it. Its only real fault is it tries to use the same engine as that other SNES Ultima game. The one I forget the name of...it's a spinoff game. No, not The Savage Empire...

Ugh - _please_don't_ compare Ultima 7 PC version to the SNES adaptation if you haven't played both! SNES version is a travesty and shares almost nothing alike with the PC version except that they use some of the same graphics. So the screenshots look like the same game, but that's it - I was fooled by that too. The animations are all hacked up, they took out almost all of the interactivity, deep conversations and everything that made it stand out as a landmark RPG on the computer. For a concrete example, note that the PC game takes up 25 mb - only about 5mb or so of which is animation while the SNES version fits on a 1mb(!) cart. Many Ultima Dragons are shamed by its very existence, I am sure. :)

By the way - there is a Ultima VI for the SNES as well.. I just can't speak for it, having never played it. Also there is no OSS adaptation as far along as Exult for Ultima VI yet as far as I know. Ultima IV maybe.. though the NES version of that actually was decent, if not incredibly difficult.
