I'm just saying taht the mainstream idea of punk is very off, even though I don't really listen to punk. The songs they play on the radio make people hate punk and go to rap. But I know an example of a punk band going gay and thats with the shit they play on the radio by Rancid, its all gay and like "if a fall back down" and he sounds like Elmer fucking Fudd.
I couldn't agree more!!

Toilet burnings, what happened??
On the last night a load of people burnt down an entire block of toilets, it nearly lost them their license, I think they had to move site as well.

I have vague memories of waking up to someone shouting fire but I just went back to sleep!

Yeah, it sucks for me. It seems the music scene is so boring right now. We need a new KoRn for this generation of listeners or something.
I feel sorry for you, I'm loving all the great bands around at the moment! If you liked nu-metal than I guess you'll have to find something new...

I don't think we needed the old KoRn to be honest. :p
Bah, real hard rock music will be back. I can't believe anybody considers the music on MTV right now entertaining. All the kids in high school right now must be a bunch of pussies compared to when I was in high school (only 3 years ago). We don't need this 'I wish I had my girlfriend back' crap on the radio again. We need something that comments on real experiences, real energy output, all that. No lame poser music. And NO DEATH METAL! Yes, KoRn actually rocked compared to the crap I hear now. Rap-Metal and Industrial is the BEST! Yes!

I'm guessing you're American right? Thankfully that nu-metal stuff was never that popular in the UK, certainly few people would see kOrN as an important band. But there are loads of great bands here (from the UK and US, it amazes me how many great American bands have to come here because crap like Matchbox 20 and Nickleback are just about the only bands who can break the hip-hop monopoly of the US charts).

But if you really want some hard rock, check out some Belle & Sebastian, Magnetic Fields, Beta Band and a bit of The Divine Comedy, they'll blow your mind!!!!

how come no one here has mentioned the aquabats
To quote the dead kennedy's "MTV get off the air!"I just bought muntiny on the bay awesome cd! Also if you guys want to watch a good movie see SLC punk
B) B)

I used to be of the attitude "If a band has a video on MTV they suck!"

I've softened a bit, and after flicking through 80+ channels of garbage, spotted a few cool-sounding bands; Queens of the Stone Age, Incubus, Superjoint Ritual ...

One thing is for sure though, any band that has a video played on TV cannot be Punk. ;)

I wouldnt say that. For the vast majority thats true, but Bad Religion, one of the most known (and in my opinion, best) punk bands of all time, thats been arround since 1979 and still makes albums (they just released a new one about a month ago), has 1 video that I have seen on TV. It was great. I think it was "American Jesus" great video. But mainly, yeah, in 99.999% of all cases, if they have videos, that means the music comes from the wallet, not the heart.

I cringe every time I see or hear the phrase "Mainstrem Punk". This is an oxymoron. Punk was not just a music style, it was a lifestyle, for lack of a better word. Anti-establishment was a punk credo, and once a band embraces mainstrem appeal, the punk ideals are gone.

I no longer consider bands like Bad Religion (whom I still listen to), AFI, Rancid, or even Ramones punk. They all have videos on MTV, and in my opinion, any band that makes a profit from a corporation needs to turn in their Punk badge.

Don't get me wrong though, I listen to many non-punk bands; hell I'm even a HUGE Johnny Cash fan! Bah, let's just face it: Punk is dead ...

I'm gonna get some samples of my band up online soon, we're punk/ska/reggae but i get bord with playin chords 24/7 so i jazzed the guitar up a bit, only prob is im a shite vocalist, well my bro reckons i sound the bloke from sublime but i think hes messin with me!

Sod all that hip-hop crap.

My personal faves on my Mp3 player at the moment??

Iron Maiden
The Darkness
Thunder
Deep Purple
Skin
Therapy?
Foo Fighters
Green Day
Guns 'n' Roses (well.. appetite for destruction anyhows)
Tenacious D
The Wildhearts

And a whole lot more. Very little Bling Bling there you may notice

Yes - as you may have noticed - I like a lot of CHEESE as well as the other stuff! And am not ashamed of it

I'm not all heavy though...

got to the 'downloads' section of http://www.ryder-online.co.uk to see what I've been involved in in the past. This was me old band (I'm in the bottom pic - the rightmost guitarist). All fell apart for various reasons (usual stuff!), and the site was last updated just after I 'made my exit', but I still love the music we made :)

All these songs were recorded in bedrooms using Cubase VST. Some in my bedroom, some in the bedroom of the Bassist in West Wales.

Give them a spin and see what you think. I'm particularly proud of 'Little Motor', co we recorded and mixed the whole thing in about 10 hours.

Cheers

Yeah, Bad Religion's had quite a few videos, mostly from the 'Stranger Than Fiction' era. '21st Century Digital Boy' was one. 'New America' I know they had a video for. They had quite a few videos for their songs, that doesn't make them sell-outs or anything.

First, do you know where the profit bad religion gets goes to? It gets donated to schools, and other such learning organizations. Betcha didnt know that huh? It started out as a small "Donation Fund" awhile back, now they are in the proccess of becoming a full non profit organization to help fund research. And now its a full fledged research fund that schools and learning organizations can apply for.
This research fund was created to allow students to pursue field-oriented investigations in cultural or natural science. It is an award with an educational focus and is meant to promote self-motivated discovery, practice of the scientific method, and experience in scientific writing.

There is a difference between profiting from those videos, and putting all the money into scholastic research funds for schools and children. Wouldnt you say?

Although with the vast majority, Jelloa Biafra said it best
"Punk's not dead, it just deserves to die..."
and
"Punk rock and alternative, have become their own cliches"

Akuma no Houkon, thanks for that info; no I didn't know that. Kudos to them!

I never said they 'sold out'. I was, once again, misunderstood. (I'm piss-poor at getting my drift across via writing)

I was simply pointing out that punk is dead. Nothing more. :)
