ok so i heard abotu this thing for the first time the other day, and it kind of threw me for a loop.

picked up a GBA Micro a few months back and (with my flashcart) it's resigned my GP32 flu to absolutely inactive duty ever since.

But, I miss MAME and DrMD...

I have been watching the 2X scene (TV-out, MAME, SNES) but some things dissuade me (joystick, batt life, persistent defective reports) and now hearing about the XGP Mini really looks very viable suddenly.

But... I am confused, they say it will play GP32 software, but does that just mean commercial or homebrew stuff as well? (if not the latter, than it's absolutely useless to me!)

I definitely wanna buy either 2X (after people stop griping about it) or this new mini if it is what I hope it'll be (basicallly pint-sized GP32 homebrew/emu's with GBA micro screen and batt life).. but in either cae, I am satisfied to wait awhile yet.

is GP32 development dead for real (..no more mame updates?) Is anyone else with me in feeling the mini? Sound off..

The things dissuading you shouldnt be. Battery life is good with good batteries and you can get lots of them to have endless battery life!
The joystick may not be the best but with DaveC's cap is 100% better.
and if your unit is one of the few defective, you can return it under it's warranty.

The XGP Mini may never materialise and even if it does and a release date is set, it will take months (if ever) to get to the same stage as the GP2X is at now. Neo Geo with gngeo is amazing on the GP2x and is reason enough. Not to mention DrMD, MAME, Outkast etc

i think i have to agree with Ralp on this one. I'm much more interested in the XGP mini, though i doubt it will ever materialize into anything, there just seems to be to many problems with the GPx2. Need to change firmware for this, flash that, i don't know, i'm not the most technical person and i'd rather just get something out of the box and use it not fiddle with a bunch of stuff.

And smaller is not always better, just more convenient, thats why my N-gage is my most played system. Its with me always, and any time i get bored, i have something that is immediately ready to play.

I still dont understand this "smaller is better" regime everyone seems to be supporting. I'd loose the goddamn thing.
It's completely the same as cellphones. People want smaller phones with more functions. Same goes for game/media players.

yep. Thats why you don't see people out jogging with the psp strapped to their arms. I've never played the Micro, so I can't judge it. All i know is that my QD is small enough, and with MMC support, it can do anything that any other media player can do as well as having anything that Symbian OS can do. But with what the XGP mini could bring to the table, it could be the ultimate portable.

yes nothing is impossible... imho i feel its doomed and may even suffer the fate of the jiz or n-gage but i could just be biest to the gp2x owning one and all

n-gage did not suffer the same fate as Gizmondo. The N-gage failed due to Nokias own stupidity and how it was marketed. It has tons more games, better games, plus all the programs and emulators associated with Symbian. Its not even in the same catagory.

But your right, more than likely, the XGP wether its the normal size or the Mini, coming from a relatively no name company is already doomed to fail.

i owned an n-gage and it wsod'd on me 2ce so yes i agree with the fact that it was nokias failt the n-gage failed

also i think that gamepark going againt the might of sony and nintendo is a silly thing to do yes both machines look cool and i lke the sound of wifi but i think they should have aloud homebrew

thanks beanfarmer

From what I heard it isn't final. They might allow homebrew they might not. But as of now the xgp does not look very 2d friendly cuz of the stick and screen.

Ultimate for you maybe. For me it sucks because I can't stand shitty small 2.2" screens.

I hope they make these for it then...
