Wiz Tv Out Cable... ?

Hello everyone,

I'm new here (obviously) and just ordered my wiz today. I'm super stoked about it; but l'm bummed that l can't seem to find a tv-out cable that works with the gp2x wiz. I've tried emailing a few companies and one of them told me that GPH hasn't released a tv-out cable for the wiz yet. Is this true? Does anyone have any idea when it will be released, or if there is some type of cable already out there that l could use, and where l could buy it (l'm in the USA)?

Thanks to anyone who can help me out with this question!

There was talk about TV out being included in the up coming cradle, but I think that has now been abandoned. I'm not sure if TV out will be utilized with this product even though it technically has the hardware to do it.

That is awful news; as it's advertised to feature tv-out :S....
I think I'll take a look at ebay to see if I can find a GP2X for tv-out. Does anyone have a link to where I can find the max resolution/bitrate of a video file playing through the GP2X while on TV-out?

They also advertised a gameboy advanced emulator, and if I recall correctly, about a year ago, I remember seeing this image of a cradle that had usb ports on it, that would hook up to the tv, and the option to have controllers hook up to it for multiplayer gaming. I can't find that ANYWHERE now though.

Please show me a link to the advertise...
Read nearly any pre-launch tech review of the product and you'll see that tv-out is listed as one of the product specifications. You can also find press releases that were sent to gizmodo, techradar etc that claim the same support.
Very disappointing, l would have probably had 2nd thoughts if l'd known this before l'd ordered mine.

See specs:

TV-out was supposed to be included early on, but GPH was unable to get the feature to work properly, so they scrapped it from the specs. As far as I am aware, TV-out has never been officially "advertised" by GPH anywhere, except possibly some very early pre-production material. Certainly nothing official.

According to ED, the TV-out pins on the SoC are already wired to the EXT port, so someone may figure out a way to enable the function in the future.

I think that you saw a GP2X cradle, I never saw a Wiz cradle. The only Wiz cradle is the developer board for MK0. Usb host and tv out is a possibility, because the Soc supports it, but they have problems with the hardware. I think they will resolve it, because they are working on this.
And they don't make games or emulators, they rely in skill scene developers to make this.

And here is is the REAL story from a guy who really know the facts:

You can't blame GPH for bad research...
That's cool if you don't like wikipedia, the fact is that the first time l heard that there wasn't going to be a tv-out cable was when l asked about it here. I did a lot of reading before l decided to buy the gp2x wiz. Nearly every review of the product you read claims it has tv-out support and the fact that it won't have tv-out is a huge draw-back (for me) l was really looking forward to sharing the emulators with friends and family members while on the road. I may send the unit back and just get a modded PSP.

Regards,

I've never read a review that boasted TV-out as a feature of the Wiz.
I can't say any of the reviews "boasted" about this feature, but listed it as a product specification.

I have however through an email correspondence with Tony Han over at GPH been told that they are not currently working on a tv-out cable and that it "probably" won't be released. However he did mention that they are working on a wi-fi dongle... now that could make up some ground! .. unless of course it's way over priced that'd be bummer.

regarding reviews not mentioning tv-out in the wiz, l'm not sure what method you used to find your reviews; l used google to research the product before deciding to buy. here are a handful of reviews from the first page of results on google, and each of them lists tv-out as a spec for the gp2x wiz.

I agree. personally, I couldn't care less about TV out or Wi-fi for that matter (the screen is to small to do anything worth while on the internet(maybe wiz-wiz multiplayer but i don't know how that would work)) but everything i read said the unit is EXPECTED to have a tv-out function. granted, there are no sites with the tested results as there is no such thing apparently. but GPH should have corrected themselves much sooner. I have read things that were previews for the launch (aka written in early may) that mention tv-out. if GPH has known for a few months now that it wasnt really a possibility, a simple email or ad of some sort should have been made public.

Just my 2 cents

Gotta say I'm quite supprised people are claiming they didn't know.
I found out about a month after preorders started and cancelled my order based on that alone.

TV out on the Wiz has been discussed time and time again on these forums, and always we have said that it's not implemented and is unlikely to be so. If GPH do manage to get it working via their up-coming cradle will be a very interesting surprise, but as far as I know this ain't going to happen.

The Wiz is designed as an "on the go" handheld console, why ever anyone would want TV out from it baffles me and I "personally" don't see the point! Maybe someone could enlighten me to why it is so important to them.

LOL. I almost posted exactly the same comment yesterday. I didn't because I thought I might be missing something. It's perfect for exactly what it is. Why buy a handheld, portable machine if all you want to do is plug it into a tv?

Ok, surely the point is that you can take it round a friends house, plug it into a TV and play MULTIPLAYER games?
I'm not sure why some people feel the need to act like anyone who wants to do this is an absolute moron...
Despite what some people say when this is pointed out to them, there is a WORLD of difference between sitting at a desk huddled round a PC playing bomberman or street fighter 2, and sitting on a sofa, playing on a big screen with your mates.

I agree its not a big thing if you just want to play at the bus stop. But if you're buying the wiz as a more conventianal console its a pretty much a killer app, and its why I personally wouldn't buy one.

(To put it another way, if I were to try and show off a handheld console, and say stuff like 'look at all the great games I can play by MYSELF!', my friends would think I was a bit of a dick (...well more so than usual).
BUT if I were to take the exact same console, plug it into a TV with a couple of pads, and say 'check out all the great games we can play TOGETHER' the purchase would be held up as a good thing by one and all)
