I know BT works on upload-download ratios, but even so its still very slow. I have a 1024 down 128 up connection, and most of the time it only uploads at about 5-6k, when ive seen other programs do 15-16k. Im using BitTornado as a client. Anyone offer any help, or an alternative? Both emule and edonkey give me awful download rates also.

use azureus, maybe wont help your problem, but it's a better client, also, people reducing upload are the one making other people downloading slower, me myself, i keep it to serious sites, and i get 500 kb/s-1mb/s at all times

Try getting stuff from Torrentspy.com it is new and seems quite good.
Just make sure you choose the torrents with the largest ammounts of seeds>downloads...

Also try leaving bittorrent on after you have dowloaded something in order that you can seed it as quite a few people throttle download speeeds for those who have a low upload ratio....

And PS. the Azureus client is the best.

mine is slow because I'm on dsl and my roomies like to download 10 at a time... making the internet and their downloads slow :( hahaha

I'll try that Azureus client out...

Some people report higher speed when allowing incoming connections rather than blocking them by the firewall. This is because if two people are both using firewalls, then neither can connect to each other, so downloads are slower.

Try searching, you can find the answers in an older thread.

Stop spamming finty101!
That is not really very constructive at all.
Everybody knows that if you search google to find out about something of this kind then it will most likely be there, but most people are clever enough to know that the same information can be found quickly/effortlessly by asking the kind members of the board.
Just because you are the sort of person who gets pissed off every time somebody asks for help doesn't mean that everybody else on this forum doesn't want to help (most people on this board enjoy being helpful to others).
If he made a Search he would most likely find all of the information in little bits and it would probably not apply to him.

Your post provides no actual help, all it does is raise your post count by 1...

loz_the_guru, I had this same problem until I was told about bittornado.

Darn the site appears to be down. PM me your email and I'll send it you or add me on whatever messenger, check my card ;)

seb: No, I meant search the offtopic forum, GNMX answered this question very well about 3 months back, which would have helped him, as it did me.

But, you know...

you might get NAT problems if you have a router

get azureus and if you get all yellow smiles you have NAT problems

if you have a D-link router just go to the D-link site and type in azurues I belive they also have how to get it to work w/ other programs too

I use to get NAT problems but I fixed it so I get better rates now

EDIT: also if you get Azurues do this http://azureus.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/OptimiseSpeed

woah...i get a yellow light in bittornado....and im on wireless broadband and therefore have a dlink router...what should i do then? with bittornado that is?
