Who can create a page on the wiki ?

Two basic hints for new wiki editors: http://pandorawiki.org/Help:Editing

Admin rights are required for locked pages only. Like the main page for example. I don't now how the actual mood of the team is, i saw lot's of smaller edits during a short period of time. I've done this too before i found the sandbox. If you know you have to do a lot of edits or are unsure how the page will look after saving i recomment excessive use of the 'show preview' button.

Some more thoughts... Be prepared that 'your' page could be edited. Hey, why i'm talking about that - that's the purpose of the wiki. I know doing a wikipage or wiki-edit the first time is doing a very "personal" thing. But please take edits or comments (like mine here) not that personal. Please don't mind if i plug in two minor edits^^. I saw at least one link missing so i like to see this page expanded until my pandora arrives. I marked the missing links with lots of xxxx, you will see them if you clicked the 'edit' button. To see my changes in compressed overview click on the history button. A big thanks in advance for your contribution!

Who are the admins? And what is the best way to report spam?

(Usually I remove it when I see it, and leave a comment in the change notes asking for user / page deletion - and hoping it gets seen.)

I think the note on the edit comment field next to the edit button is ok. You could replace the spam with

[[Category:Spam]]

to sort it into the spam category. I think that is better than writing text there, which could lead into page hits in case of use of the search function.

I deleted everything in the spam category today, plus some other spammy stuff. Thank you for tagging the pages!

Please do add a [[Category:Spam]] to the page instead of just deleting the text, though (as Double7 and Gruso did, at least in some of their edits) as that makes it easier to find and delete the pages themselves so they don't show up in search results.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to permanently ban IP addresses because of laws in ED's jurisdiction, as I understand it, so the only defence is to delete the users and pages as they come.

There was a decrease in spam for a while after ED made it harder to sign up to the wiki last year, but it seems that the spammers have caught up. Perhaps it's time to make anyone who wants to make a new account on the wiki answer some sort of Pandora-specific question (i.e.... Q: Write the username of the Pandora team member which begins with 'Evil' ... A: EvilDragon ... maybe someone can think of a better example. Or: Q: Write the names of the four Pandora game buttons in alphabetical order, i.e. "ABCD" A: ABXY)

How many memory cards slots does the Pandora have? - two or 2

What do PCSX, UAE4ALL, and MAME all do? - any answer with the word emulate in (within a sensible number of characters)

The 'save changes' button is already protected by a question and there are still spam saves. I think the spammers would learn to bypass pandora specific questions too. To get rid of the problem requires hard defences. Unfortunately this would block legal new users for some time. We could turn off self user registration or edit-rights and require new users to send their contribution for the wiki via email first. A more complex way could be content analysis for links and create an auto delete and account block function if specific spam links are part of the contribution. That what way a spammer could place a link to one of his customers for one time only. To add a question: What is the pandora specific tm ? The problem is, new users don't understand or don't know.

If we can't ban ips or ip ranges, then we could add the send contribution via email first for account creation from this ips first?

Good tip, will do in future.

Thanks for the advice Esn!

If you are on the edit page, there is right of the 'save' buttons the editing help page - i'd add the spam category text there, it's now one click away if you like to use it for copy&paste.

Two ideas for spam protection: recaptcha and FlaggedRevs.

FlaggedRevs allows (among other things) for hiding existing page modifications until they have been reviewed and accepted by a mod/admin.
