hello ,
i have an gp32 and he needs batteries en masse . so can i order somewhere an adapter with which the gp32 gets his power from the plug socket instead of batteries ?
if not : can i use ´these adapters which are designed for the gba or gb ?
bye

hi cranky,

sure you can use standard adapters. You just have to ensure that it meets the following requirements:

- it is regulated (meaning the power it produces is a constant flow)
- it is 3V
- correct polarity: - o) + (meaning the negative wire inside, the positive outside)
- as far as I know the amount of miliampers (mA) is not important. Mine, for example, has 300mA.

If you use a wrong adapter, you can easily fry your GP32 so better double-check.

EDIT: as the plug GP32 needs is not too common, its safer to buy a universal adaptor with a set of various replaceable plugs (8 or more).

Yeah I've been having to deal with the batteries issue too, so I'm either buying rechargeable ones and a charger or go for an adapter (or maybe both).
The plug is definitely uncommon, both the universal adaptors I have can't use it, but it does look like the same plug my Sony MD uses (my adapter was stolen so I can't check).

However I've seen a good tutorial on gp32games.com explaining how to use a lithium battery on the GP and another on how to get it USB powered.

Spanish is not my native language but I can translate it easily for anyone's interested!

gp32x.de could also host these kind of tutorials... I've seen several around even on the forums, so why not create a new section?

yes, it uses the same plug as SONY MD's, but it uses a different polarity (actualy not A different polarity, but THE different polarity) I myself have an 400 mAh one. works great. But be sure to get a regulated one. The first one i bought wasn't regulated and the screen was just wavy all the time.

BUT PLEASE CHECK THE POLARITY FIRST,BEFORE YOU TRY IT.

Sorry to shout an all, But we don`t want your next post to be something like " I`ve just killed my GP32, HELP, What can i do, I only plugged the adaptor into it and the screen went blank. Help me please", etc etc etc.

I`ve learnt from first hand experience, But can not bring myself to sell her, Sniff.

Remember: The GP32 is centre negative, Meaning that the pin in the centre of the adaptor has to be the negative terminal and the outer part of the connector has to be positive.

i found the easiest solution was to buy myself a USB battery charger and some rechargable batteries.

Just plug the charger into one of my PC's USB ports and it charges 4 batteries in a few hours.
I have 1 set which is in my GP32, and 2 other sets in the charger, that way i never run out of juice, and if i go anywhere i just take a spare set with me.

If you live in the USA you can go to your local radio shack and ask for a 3v/500mA ac adapter with an "A" type plug. Its about $15 and it's white so it matches the gp32_console pretty well. Just make sure when you getit and plug in the "A" type plug align the word "tip" on the cord with the "-" on the plug. That sets the correct polarity.
You'll understand what i mean when you purchase the adapter.
This is the cheapest and easiest way i found to play non-stop.

You get to pick one free plug with the purchase of an adaper above is the adapter and the plug.

Why do Radio shack only allow you to pick one plug?

With the adaptors we buy here in Australia from Dick Smith Electronics we get six different plugs included, which is handy if we want to use it with something else as well as the gp32 but it has a different plug type.
