- Two Arduino UNOs for the CNC shields I have lying around; TMC2209 drivers. The jury is still out on the steppers and PSU. Likely 17HE19-2004S and a passively cooled 24V Meanwell. I want to build a plotter...
- A DIN A3 cutting mat as replacement for my ghetto mouse pad, which for no obvious reason started curling up like crazy. The cutting mat (Elan Arts and Crafts) is black, has a nice texture to it and doesn't slip around. And I can use the other side to actually cut stuff on.
- A spool of PLA with 15% carbon fibres. I've been wasting hours trying to calibrate my printer using an old spool of PLA. Weirdly enough after installing klipper the first print came out nicely. But since - even after drying the filament multiple times - I just could not get decent results. As it turns out PLA can be permanently damaged by a process called hydrolysis. Maybe the outer strands just weren't affected as much as the rest. The new PLA-CF is printing like a dream at the moment. Just removed my first usable parts. They printed faster than with the other PLA and apart from some elephant's foot due to z-offset/temps they came out fine. One downside of this black material is that I can hardly make it out on the print bed over the Pi camera's stream. So for recognizing print failures early I have to stick to the machine for now until I get more lights with good CRI on it. The printer does come with an LED bar on top of the frame, but that mostly helps to form the perfect drop shadow under the print head. Tomorrow a spool of PETG-GF should find me. Looking forward to printing the Taurus fan upgrade using that.
- A set of "hardened tungsten" nozzles. They were very cheap. I don't think I've shaken hands with Herr Wolfram while installing one of those.
Edit 2025-05-11: When small objects stick well, but large ones fail to adhere, increase temperature. Also do not trust what the manufacturer writes on the spool. Looking at you, eryone. The spool says "190 - 220 °C", the website "210 - 250 °C". 240 finally sticks and prints well after half a dozen failed attempts at a big frame-like model.
- A cartridge/box/container/bunch(?) of Pentel Ain Stein in 2B. Remarkably sturdy for such a soft grade. They write in a nice dark tone with little scratch upon rotation. Pleasurable haptics!
