What Format Do You Need A Rom To Be So You Could Run It On An Emulator

Erm, you DO know that you need an emulator to play a ROM? The GP2X alone won´t load any ROM.

For instance, if you want to play Megadrive/Genesis games, you need to install Picodrive (or Dr.MD) first,,start it and use it to load a ROM.

I think you need my site (in the sig).

Also, basically, if you have a Genesis ROM, it should play in the Genesis emulator. Format shouldn't need to be changed; though it's a good idea to zip your ROMs (each in individual files) with a zip program (I recommend IZArc, if you're using windows).

It depends on the emulator. Nintendo uses .NES roms, Super Nintendo uses .SMC, etc. Read the instructions that come with each emulator for more details. Once you acquire your ROMs, they will very likely be in the correct format already. Usually the only other thing you need to do is ZIP the files, and even that's not required. It just saves space.

Edit: And definitely check out Shinneri's GP Newbie site, it's very helpful.

I shall have to look at that, but 7-zip is the best I have found so far. And it is totally free. It integrates fully into the windows right-click menu and is very fast. Edit, looks cool, I can't be bothered to change right now though. Maybe later.

Yep, whatever works. :) IZArc has the right-click thing, too, which is wonderful for extracting and zipping up ROMs.

Yup, Total Commander has features for batch zipping and unzipping too, along with a useful feature of turning a zip archive into a virtual directory (so you don't need to unpack to see/view the contents)

Well I have all the emulators and all the roms for nes,snes,n64 and more. But my questions is that I have the roms i put them in my sd and then try to open them on my gp2x and nothing is there.

They are not like MP3's or video files. You need to start the emulator first. Also make sure the respective roms are in a subfolder of the respective emulator.

He is trying to use his emulators for pc on the gp2x?

To the original poster: I mean go to archive.gp2x.de, get some emulators there and follow the instructions in the readme files.

Dude dont be retarded who would use pc emulators on their gp2x. I mean I have all the emulators for the gp2x.
The problem is I have the snes emulator on my sd and I pass a rom like super mario kart zipped and I press load rom and it would say that ther are no roms available.

You don't have to be so rude, be careful who you call retarded, YOU'RE the one with the N64 roms on your SD.

He's right follow the instructions in the readme files, if that fails, listen to shinneri's advice.

I have nothing positive to contribute to this thread.

Funny as anything this guy calling you retarded when hes the one with N64 roms and also the one who cant seem to get any emulator to work

I've had problems in the past with one or two emulators, the vast vast majority have been fine after reading the readme.txt, most are very very easy.

How this person hasnt been able to get to work astounds me. I would offer my help but his rudeness and total lack of even trying is shocking

In the readme files it tells you where to put the roms, for example /roms/snes

leicamaster, you have to be more specific if you want help.

Start with this: WHICH emulator are you using?

Don't just say SNES, because there are three different SNES emulators on GP2X.

Secondly, tell us exactly where on your SD your SNES roms are kept, and what exact format they are in (file extension, zipped/unzipped?)
