I'm on the fence about picking this system up. I know it is not that great my brother owned one as a kid and sold it all on ebay (with out me knowing..) a few years back. I got a pinch to play mario tennis and panic bomber again. It seems like a decent VB and a few of the good games is around $200.00 on amazon. Am I crazy to want to do this? Anyone else got a VB they want to sell?

I'd always think the Virtual Boy is more of a novelty, and a cool thing to add to a video game collection. So if you're a collector, go for it!

It is fun for about 10 minutes, then you realise all the games are horrible.

I played Mario tennis the most, but only because I wanted some use out of it.

I bought a couple of these at the right time - $50 each, new & boxed! $200 sounds way too much unless there's lots of extras (AC adapter a must). Also watch out for filthy facemasks - sometimes these are missing, making it hard to keep out the light.

For a collector, a worthy item. If it's because you miss the games then you'll probably experience buyers remorse pretty quickly.

I liked Galactic Pinball on it. But I can't relate with purchasing one for $200, most owners seemed to get theirs at $20 or less when outlets were liquidating their supplies..

Am I the only one out there who LIKES this thing? I've never even had any eye or headache issues. And most of the games are pretty good, though I'll be the first to admit how ridiculously limited the library is.

The Virtual Boy was great for what it was at the time. Sadly it arrived at the wrong place at the wrong time, but it had a few good games.

I completely agree that 200 is way to much, unless you are getting some good extras, or it is box and new. Check Ebay for bare bones units, and then try to get a Flash Boy. The Flash Boy runs about 100 with shipping, but it allows you to play any game,as well as home brew, and unreleased games like Bound High.

I Actually sold my collection a few months ago for around 3 grand, but I had a very nice collection, with some rare items. I now only have my unit and a Flash Boy left, but that's all I need really.

$200 is the price i would pay for an adaptor, unit, tennis, wario land, panic bomber and maybe one or two more games. Plus shipping* :p

Hmmmm flash boy your say? I will have to look into this this might be a better deal

Yeah that's what my brother did back in the day we waited until the unit was $30 and got it and all the games for like $4 a go at the various stores that couldn't get rid of them fast enough.

I liked the unit too it was fun for the time, why does getting older seem like your buying your youth back piece meal... :)

Good advice guys thx for the input but i think i will go for it and wash the visor so i don't get lice.

Here is a link for those interested in the Flash Boy!

http://www.vectrex.biz/ It is normally availible off and on thru out the year(at least when it was sold thru Planet Virtual Boy), but now Richard only sales them directly.

Richard Hutchinson is the creator, and he is a good guy who post in many classic gaming forums, and has created many classic gaming devices. I have ordered from him many times over the years, and have always gotten great service, and even better products.

Dude way to rock Jumpman, thx i just sent an email off to Richard and see if he has any in stock. How is the software like? Does it work with WINE/ Win 7 64, that is all i have to offer  So you can only get one game going at once right? And you only get one save file so if you change games you loose your save data as well right? Isn't that how the old Sega CD worked :p could you imagin how you would feel if your lunar data got wiped out by a high score for sewer shark.

Thx again!

Quick question which games use a battery back up? I am almost certain wario land did. did Panic Bomber? I guess the question is what will i be losing when i swap games in the flash boy?

Thx a million

Anybody know of a source of parts for VBs? My left hand screen has gone on the blink. I've done the oven trick once, but its not permanent and it's a right faff...

Sorry about my late reply. I'm actually out of town on a mini vacation, so I haven't really been around a computer much ;)

As far as the software go's, I can't say for sure, as I have never actully used mine. I have used some of Richards other products, and they always seem to work fine under windows.

The original FB only allowed for 1 file at a time, and didn't support saves at all. Then the FB+ got released, and it still only allows 1 game at a time, but saves are now supported. Technically, once a save file is made on the cart, you should be able to move it to your computer before you install a new game. Then, whenever you play that game again, just drop in the save game file, and you should be good to go. Just make sure to back it up before you load another game, or else it will be lost.

It's a pity the VB doesn't use conventional LCD panels - it'd be a great project to turn one into a projector with colour filters for each side so you could play giant 3D games with old style anaglyph glasses.

I believe that would have greatly increased the cost and size of the unit.

LCD screens in 1995.. They had horrific quality, generally not as thin as they are now and cost a lot of money.
