Using Dbus To Create Custom Function Buttons

I couldn't see anyway to add a custom key in exaile when I remembered that exaile can be driven via dbus

Its worth noting that many other apps use dbus too, you can control a very wide range of things...

two useful apps you can use on the desktop to help you investigate an apps dbus interface are qbusviewer so you can run methods via a gui and dbus-monitor so you can double check the specifics of the message...

using the xfce keyboard settings application you can then set up a key to send a dbus message, in my case I used the command:

Code:
dbus-send --type=method_call --dest=org.exaile.Exaile /org/exaile/Exaile org.exaile.Exaile.Next
I selected the right shoulder button for ease of access when the pandora is closed up inside my coat pocket

knock yourself out, I don't tend to do wiki's as I tend to get really pissed when some know nothing dweeb "edits" my work ;)

Happy to supply technical details and so forth to anyone who is prepared to write and maintain the wiki page....

I'd volunteer, but the new job barely leaves me enough time to comment on other people's brilliant ideas. :)
