Use Usb Soundcard?

Would it be possible to use a iMic for recording/playback? It plugs in via USB.

I'd say yes. At least it is supported by the linux kernel.

Now if you find a file named snd-usb-audio.ko in /lib/modules/$(uname -r) then you're lucky : it will work out of the box, else someone will need to build this driver for you.

edit: I hope that this is not your work-around your sound-"problem" (Which I hope to not be hardware related...)

And yes... this was a proof of concept workaround for the problem I'm having. It's really driving me insane...
