I was considering upgrading the firmware of my f100-mk2 (firmware 3). What version would be the best that allows use of cards bigger than 2gb?
More importantly, is upgrading the firmware to 4.x from 3.x dangerous? I remember people having all kinds of problems back when my model was current. Something to do with large parts of the nand being marked as bad and people ending up with bricks. I don't want to brick my machine over this if it is still an iffy proposition. I would like to use the bigger cards though. What would be the size limit of cards with the new firmware? I assume 4 is fine but what about an 8mb sd card? What about bigger? Are there any issues with any particular brand or non-brand of card? Do you have to get the faster cards?

FW 3.0.0 supports most SD cards up to 4GB.
FW 4.0.0 supports SDHC cards up to 16GB.
An update from 3 to 4 should go without problems.
The best solution for SDHC cards is the hacked 2.1.2 firmware from notaz. But beware. A downgrading from 3 to 2 seem to be potentially dangerous.

Stephan
