The way it might be like the gp32 is that homebrew will be considered like it was with the gp32.

Remember when the gp32 came out it didnt have any sdk released, so no1 could dev for it, then eventually the company decided to release it. I wasnt around till the last year of it, so I dont know if this is what it did.. It was the various sites I looked at had this info.

It is however, rumored that the XGP will infact do the same thing to boost sales, but they will have their own professional developers for the emus.

It has also become apparent that the XGP will most likely have:
•TV-OUT
•Very nice media support
•Very nice commercial 3d games
•Touch Screen
•Wifi
•Online play
•Double as a cell phone/ possibly a internet browser
•Multi Tasking -they were talking about some kind of complexed thing to reduce memory usage on programs... cant tell, this one was from a japanese translated site

I just thought that I would post this, it seemed pretty interesting for a change...

I cant remember the sites just various blogs and forums.. etc but im going to get one of these for media, and use my 2x for games :D

Wouldn't proprietary emus draw too much attention? I mean, a company can't be sued if independent devs make the emus. It's almost like they could be sued for 'encouraging illegal activity'. I doubt that there'll be XGP emus made by GP. That's just me, i guess.

I wonder if it still has the analog stick and widescreen that is smaller than the PSP's? If it does that will suck for emulation.

One site I looked at was the place where I got 0.6 bor from.. just check in the news thread.

THe other were like random/bored google search. and i kind find them anywhere in my cookies.

I dunno, i like how the screen rotates... and the stick is prob better then the stock one that comes on the gp2x

What's the point of speculating? We don't know anything final yet. I think that emulators will be highly unlikely. GP would have to pay license fees for the hardware in order to keep them legal. That would up the price on the unit. Then of course they may have to license the roms as well.

I see no point in them even attempting emulator development in house. Regarding the rumour of GPH hiring NK: it's just that a rumour. If they did hire him it probably wasn't for the purpose of working on emulators in house.

There is no way that either Gamepark or Gamepark Holdings can be seen to condone the use, let alone encourage or develop, emulators.

The whole issue of legality and emulators is the one thing that worries me about the success of gp2x....

If it 'goes semi-mainstream' then the likes of Nintendo may well see it as Gamepark's job to lock down the firmware to prevent emulators or threaten with legal action. Unlike PC emulators - there is one company here for them to target.

It seems a very good reason for them (GPH) to make it completely open source as then they can then claim (rightly) that it isn't feasible.

Somewhat ironically... probably the main reason they don't want to is that they are afraid of gp2x emulators (ie clones). :D
