Is there any chance this emulator could be ported to the Wiz?
At the moment it's only on the GP2X, here: http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/gp2x.cgi?0,0,0,0,72,2830
The source code can be downloaded from here: http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/gp2x.cgi?0,0,0,0,46,2831
I've asked on the GP2X archive comments but the author doesn't have a Wiz.
Many thanks, Neil

I've built a Wiz version and I need somebody to test it for me please (I don't have a Wiz).

http://www.users.waitrose.com/~thunor/sz81/dload/sz81_2.1.6.1-1_openwiz.tar.gz

If it doesn't work then dump the contents of sz81log.txt here and I can fix it.

Regards,
Thunor

Thanks for all your hard work on this.

But sz80.gpe and sz81.gpe both crash back to the main menu, it creates a sz81log.txt but it's empty. (Does it matter what folder/s the files go in?)

Maybe somebody else could help more. (Termula maybe?)

Cheers, Neil

Thanks for your help Neil.

In the sz81 release thread ( http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?showtopic=53203 ) Mr 2X is assisting with termula messages. I've posted a link to a new binary in there too which might work, but if it doesn't you'd need termula to retrieve the error message to enable me to fix it.

Thunor

I've tried the new sz81 file (from here: http://www.users.waitrose.com/~thunor/sz81/dload/sz81 ) and it's still not working. :( (The sz81log.txt is still empty)
Termula's beyond me, hopefully Mr 2X can help.

Cheers and good luck, Neil

Edit: I've also tried the 2 libs with no luck. :(
(From here: http://www.users.waitrose.com/~thunor/sz81/dload/libgcc_s.so.1 & here: http://www.users.waitrose.com/~thunor/sz81/dload/libstdc++.so.6 )

There is now a working version downloadable from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?o5gyzgmumjr
There's still a problem with the sound buffer giving the sdl_sound_frame: Sound buffer overflow message with Termula, but it seems to run fine.

Thanks for all your hard work Thunor & Mr 2X. Hopefully the sound buffer problem will be fixed soon and we'll see it up on the archive.
Cheers, Neil

A quick question while I'm here: How do you get sz80 & sz81 to start without the inverted screen? (Maybe by editing the .gpe's? White on Black looks so wrong!)

Edit: There is now a newer version with the sound buffer fixed here: http://sz81.sourceforge.net/#downloads :)

Remove the "-i" from within sz80.gpe and sz81.gpe. You can also invert the screen via the control bar icon and remap it to a joystick button if you want using the control remapper (select). I'll remove "-i" from the gpe files now anyway since it's now possible to adjust the foreground and background colours to stop your eyes from feeling as though you've been viewing the midday sun through a telescope ;)

BTW I've credited you and Mr 2X in the README for testing. It's in the installation section near the bottom.

So that I don't have to duplicate posts, please see http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?/topic/53203-sz81-2-1-6-1-portable-sinclair-zx80-and-zx81-emulator/page__view__findpost__p__848429 regarding the latest release which might stop the "sdl_sound_frame: Sound buffer overflow" error messages appearing within sz81log.txt.

I can recommend some nice free games to play :-

Virus -> Download...
Domin8tr1s -> Download...
Pipes
Qrobot
Manic Miner -> Download...

And if anyone's interested in writing machine code games I've transcribed Toni Baker's Mastering Machine Code on Your ZX81 or ZX80 to html which you can download and read on your GP2X/Wiz with Qtopia+Opera. It's an interesting read anyway since it explains how various parts of the machine work.

This is a truly, truly, beautiful thing to run on the Wiz.

Well done!

I just want to say that I now can finally put to rest any forelorn lust i had for the zx81 before it was too late! I was young when it was released and I wanted one *so* badly, but alas .. it was out of fashion so fast, and I ended up with .. well .. an Oric-1. Similar. But the young me, and the zx81, we gonna get it on now .. finally .. at last! In BED!! With BATTERIES!

Hehe :D

What I like about emulation is that it enables you to explore computers you didn't have the chance to initially, at you're leisure, in bed :)

I've uploaded this to the Wiz archive now since it seems to be working.

Thunor
