Did anyone hear that there is an extra button IN the joystick?
Meaning you can press down the stick for an extra button!

I heard of this yesterday on gp2x.de, and was quite surbprised, as I never heard of that before. (Sorry if it has been posted.)

This could be excellent for vertical games or for FPSs, push down the stick to move faster.

and henceforth it was refered to as stick run

i think it'll be great, better than ... analog

however, i don't think any handheld will be able to beat the FPS control on the DS ... having that touch pad is almost as good as mouse look

I hear that, it's unbelievable how great the control in Metroid feels with the thumb stylus on touch screen- so natural for a PC-based FPS gamer like myself. That said, I used to rule Quake3A on the Dreamcast but those stick-skills are only a shadow of what they once were.. due to a mite of Halo practise.

I saw the clicky stick button in the video, too, it's good news- any extra button would be.. the Zodiac has the same sort of thing. One less thing to miss.

Clicky Joystick Button? Like the Playstation's Clicky Dual Shock button thing? Sounds good! I could like use it for.. I don't know. I always found it quite hard to press a joystick button due to the angle of my thumbs.

Hmm. The Zodiac has a clickable d-control. However, clicking it while off-center is akward... I'm also under the impression this is what the "5-way navigator" on most semi-recent PDAs is. TBH, I find that mostly when I'm clicking the d-control, it's navigating around PalmOS/some menu, rather than in-game...

This button in the stick sounds really stupid. You have 4 main butons, a start & select button, and a shoulder buttons. Most people are just goign to be playing emulators anyway and most older systems only use a few buttons.

And useing the stick button to select is about the worst idea I've ever had. How many PS1/PS2/Xbox games do you know that map that use the analog button to select menu options (I think theres one) ? I hope you can re-map the buttons if they are going to map activate to the joystick.

it's nothing more than an extra button. no one's going to force you to use it.

It's brilliant. It lets emulators use the stick-button to open the emu menu rather than a two-button combination or taking up one of the normal buttons.

that would be pretty cool but I would be afaird of accidently pressing it, I think I rather just press start and select at the same time.

Seemed like the joystick button requires quite some force so I don't think anyone would press it by accident while playing. I really do like the idea of press to run. To bad GP2X may never run N64 games, Zelda OOT would be great when you can chose to walk or run in such a simple manner. I'm however a bit afraid that you will loose some controll over the stick when you are applying force to press it down.

I'd rather it was 'press to walk', I run everywhere in fps unless im sneaking up behind someone or near a ledge or something. If it was 'press to run' i'd be pressing it all the time.

My only exposure to clicky thumbsticks is the xbox controller, and in very game I've seen it used, it gets used to change the mode of the thumbstick, for example you click it once to zoom the view (the view itself is controlled by the thumbstick) and click again to zoom back out. I suspect the reason they do this, is because it's harder to control the thumbstick while you're applying pressure to it.

I find quite the opposite - when I'm playing a game using my Xbox controller, I find that I can press the button in the stick far too easily when moving the anlog stick about (I tend to be rather heavy handed at times, except on my GP32 (thankfully)). I found in many Xbox games I played where this effected gameplay I would get very irritated very quickly. No wonder I sold my Xbox.

offtopic - an Xbox controller is perfect for playing PC games I've found. At least then I can turn off the clicky button in the stick so it doesn't affect anything.

If this button is as easily clickable on the GP2X as it is on the Xbox then I hope that devs allow for it to be turned off or remapped somewhere else. This button would be horrible in emus to return to the menu with - I could see any Gp2X I use getting thrown at the wall very quickly if this was the case.

yeah this buttons would be great for bringing up an emulator menu! just like with emulators on the xbox..except with those you would hit the right thumbstick which never gets used in play.

anyway, i noticed the same thing as white demon..the button can be easily pressed when moving about with the thumbstick and stuff. i hope it won't be triggered as easily with the 2x's stick.

I've never once accidentally pressed in a thumbstick on the Xbox or PS2. You guys really must be "heavy handed"

For emulators, you could just have it so that you are only returned to the menu after the button has been held down for a certain amount of time (OS9XGP).
