I'm not quite sure what a status bar is, but if you are talking about the XFCE panel I can give a few hints. Right click on any blank space to "add new items". Right click on any item to modify it's preferences or move it. The default bar looks like:
XFCE Menu | Separator (dots) | Shortcut to Thunar | Separator (dots) | Icon Box | Brightness Plugin | Mixer | Separator (line) | Notification Area (the pandora settings and wifi seem to be background applications that have notification icons) | Separator (line) | Battery Monitor (edit preferences if you want battery time remaining) | Orage Clock | Seperator (line) | Workspace Switcher | Show Desktop | Window List
