I would like to hear existent devs express their opinion on the creation of an Interface Style Standard for the development in GP2X, of course the use of this will be optional, but we can create a nice consistent look for GP2X.

The Standard could focus on the graphic design, and also on recomended behaviours for some specific actions, (savegames, quit, enter config, etc).

The emergence of a Standard could create a Skins scene, and give devs the oportunity to think more on the code and less on the interface.

I know this is more complex that it seems but I would like to hear some opinions on that.

I think now is a good time because everything is fresh.

Thanks

We probably need the hardware first though to see what buttons are good for what. We need to know how the light is turned on/off, if the volume controls can be re-programmed etc.

Then you need to get all of the devs to agree on a standard. This will be hard as everyone has their own idea of what is best. It may be possible but you would need to have all devs participate at once. Maybe one of the top board mods or Craig or someone can organize something like that.

this is a good idea! A little paper with standards amd style guides for basic MMI/GUI sounds good to me. . .

Don't go overboard, though - some individuality in each program is nice. I think things like "which combination of buttons resets" and "which button is 'cancel'" should be the first priority here, not the graphical look of the menu.

In a corporate environment these style of standards are a must, in a loose environment like this some guidelines and suggestions may be nice ;). People will and should do what they want and make there programs how they see fit but guidelines for things like reset behaviour etc. seem like a good idea.

Considering projects like kde and gnome have enough problems with consistency and they have volumes on style guides that make War and Peace look like a coffee novel what point is there even trying to proscribe ridged standards for the GP2x ;). Guidelines driven by the community and devs for the comounity and devs get a Thumbs Up and I would even offer to contribute a little, rules, standards and bitching get a big Thumbs Down.
