Hi all,

The Spectrum emu is great, although on many games the controls don't work. Deathchase for example, it loads but none of the controls work. I guess what I'm asking is 'what is the solution'?!

Hello, GP2xpectrum is indeed a great emulator but it's user interface isn't the friendliest around. To play many games you need to map the keys to the GP2x controls yourself so as to be able to play. Take a look here for an explanation of how you map keys.

I have been thinking for a while that it would be nice idea to put together a pack of key mappings and pokes for GP2xpectrum and maybe upload it to the torrent site.

Hi, in most games it will ask you to select control options. In the day I always had a kempston joystick interface, so (out of old habit) always select Kempston on the in game control screen. Just use the virtual keyboard to select option 1,2,3 or a,b,c etc...

You then need to tell the emulator that you want to use a kempston joystick by calling up the keyboard menu and selecting kempston (its in the bottom bar, around the middle if if remember correctly) and all should be fine.

You can, of course, do this for Sinclair, fuller, keyboard etc...

Hope that helps :)

I normally set the joystick to Kempston and then choose that option.

Granted in older games such as 3d Deathchase it might not have Kempston support.

Interface II controls are 6=left 7=right 8=down 9=up 0=fire

Cursor controls are =5=left, 6=down, 7=up, 8=up, 0=fire

As 3d Deathchase is so old it has some weird controls...

1 for left, zero for right, 8/9 brake/accelerate, and any bottom row key to fire (ZXCVBNM etc)

If you are sure of keys you should find the game at World of Spectrum, eg...

http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0001303

Here you can read the instructions for the game which are typed up, read old reviews of the games from the old 80's mags which are scanned in.

Eg for this game, in Crash (A great old 80's Spectrum mag)...

http://www.crashonline.org.uk/01/deathchase.htm

At the bottom it told me the controls for the game.
