Sony 3d headset. 150 inch screen.

Well yes it does look interesting. Yes I have to admit it does.

Though of course to people in the field, trained as it were, its really just a novelty of sorts, not too demean it you see, it's just fellows, such as I, trained and learned in such aspects. Well we can see, more.

More than the pretence of senses fooling '3D viewing' that this, detached and wholly uncapable of real, tangible, alteration of perspective, gimmick, is trying to achieve.

Its a mocking you love and which you gladly pay for but really, there's no need for such expense. Not for such a shallow, cheap version of medics trickery. I mean, we have to keep such secrets of how to really achieve such feats quiet and between ourselves right?. We couldn't have every untrained oik trying to reach virtual nirvana's and new 3D realms forever, without the majority paying the big wheels to keep the machine alive. So its something of a trade secret you see. If I only had time to explain or help out but alas, its well past twat and frickin builders are at it again, not to mention my f'ckin dog digging shit up as usual

But yes, you have been to a Dentist before, sure, so your used to the initial lightheaded feeling and these dark glasses, which are the part the 3D conmen out there are trying to pretend is the reason for the enhanced experience in the theatre. They're lying of course, as actually its this compound mixture, made mist into the air, atomsosized we call it, that they vent into the theatres that has the real effect. Here of course, you can just use this mask to breathe it in, at a shadow of the expense of a cinema visit and its the quite the film that's playing. A historically monstrous tragedy, actually. Now say arrrrggghhhhh!!!!!!!!

These 3d video glasses have been around for a loooooooooooooong time. I have a 2d version I bought several years back, it gives the impression of watching a big tv and works well but not very comfortable. Don't know how Sony can launch this, many many many years after they have been on the market by many suppliers and then charge a ridiculous amount for them as if to say its new tech.

$800 for 3d video glasses that have been around for at least 5 years that other manufacturers are selling for $150 - $300. No Thanks !!

I wonder if its much better than the older models. It has surround sound and oled screens at least.Ive never had such a device so maybe when i can actually afford more than a bunch of mouldy bananas ill buy this, well if it gets cheaper over time.

We were discussing this very headset a few months ago:

The difference (see above thread) with the HMZ-T1 is that it's OLED not LCD, and 720p resolution. It also has a wider view angle than previous models, so less of the impression of looking out a window and more 'encompassing' view.

In gadget envy, it's slightly been overtaken in my mind by Sony's announcement of a 4K Ultra-HD projector. 4K= 4000 line resolution. Mercy.

Not that OLED is real usefull when your talking 1-2 cm screens which are 1-2cm from your eyeball, however, even these have been around for a while see from Aug 2010

ok lets be fair and stop playing this item down like its not a good product.

I dont belive sony are introducing this product as a completely new idea that they alone thought of, but it is vastly improved compared to previouse efforts (hi-def, oled, 3d) so if anything, its a good achievement and not something to think lowly of.

Sorry for the weird post there. I'd just watched 10 Rillington Place on Wrath of Khan's recommendation in his film thread and that is one seriously chilling movie on a tragic case and Chasing Sleep was also stunning. I'd hate to think of such films via those glasses though (which look great and a progression on such items beforehand).

The Zeiss ones are only 640x480 - The new Sony is 720p, better than XGA res which until now you'd be lucky to get for less than $600, so price-wise it's pretty fair even if out of reach. HDMI and 3D support too - though 3D has been supported on Sony headsets since the first model in the mid 90s (I still have one of those!).

OLED really does make a difference - on contrast ratio, saturation and pixel density - even more obvious when viewing close like this. The panels in most projectors are scarcely any bigger.

I've had a few headsets (the original Sony the only one I kept!) and the lower res LCD panels are painfully obvious in most, the black level is also poor - something OLED should finally deal with.

The killer selling point for this one though is the viewing angle. With all the previous headsets any dreams of Lawnmower man style VR are dashed the second you try them on - the image is mostly border, even with 3D it's more like looking out a pixellated window about 4ft away in a dark room. The new Sony has a much wider angle of view - still not perfect but by far the best to date.

If you want to watch 3D Blu Ray movies, there wouldn't be a better device - no polarising glasses, no split fields, no shutter glasses - two full frame full res display elements - perfect!

If I had to find fault with headsets themselves other than on image terms, they can be uncomfortable and do get grubby - support pads rest on the forehead for example. Don't like to share with sweaty friends. ;)

Well certainly if you have never had any sort of headset like this before (I havent) then it seems pretty cool to me. Better than getting a 3d telly i think. You have to watch 3d tellys head on as the picture/3d effect diminishes depending on ones viewing angle.

Glad you enjoyed these mariopandio.Yes 10 rillington place is a chilling story. I would try childs play also (The 70s english movie, not chucky the doll obviously though he has his merits too.)

@Asmo

Don't get me wrong, my gripe is not with the technology, its the price. I just don't think its worth $800. It kind of reminds me when they launched those small oled tv's for an astronomical price only to half the price the next year and then half it again the next.

The point I was making about oled is that it is a strain on your eyes to have a screen (oled or lcd) that close to your eye balls. Plus the glasses are as you say uncomfortable. I bought mine to watch movies in bed while lying down, but they were just to uncomfortable for that.

Also these are not mum approved, after all didnt your mum ever tell you not to sit to close to the telly. Try telling her that you now watchg telly from 2cm from your eye balls. Mum wont be happy - lol.

Sure it's expensive, but not being able to afford a Lamborghini doesn't stop me wanting one ;)

Apparently all our Maternal warnings about sitting too close to the TV were an urban myth. It all began when TVs were valve powered CRT behemoths that people feared were dosing their progeny with 'Radiation' from their electron guns of doom. Studies proved this false, and most TVs aren't even CRT anymore so it's moot these days in any case!

The optics in the headsets attenuate the focal length so they're not really as hard on the eyes as the distance would suggest - it's more the same problem as 3D movies in the cinema, one of forced convergence, it can be tiring.

Still fun in short blasts!
