Suit Up!
So with Xmas coming up fast, and mario kart and animal crossing sure to be the top selling ds games of the xmas season, im here to point out two other games that might make u think twice before u pick up ur copy of animal crossing or mario kart (if u dont already have them)
Sonic Rush
with Sonic Team having trouble with making a plausible sonic game in 3D, they went back to the drawing board after E3 2004 and decided to go back to the original 2D that worked for the game. And what we get is probably the best sonic game ever. Graphically, it is beautiful. Combining 3d characters with 2d enviroments for the levels gives it that little extra something that owuld have been missing if it went totally 2D. Boss battles take the form of 3D adding a whole new type of gameplay to it allowing the bosses to jump in and out of the background to attack. Music in game is good with fast tunes making u want to finish the levels as quick as possible. The touch screen is put to use in the special stages which are akind to those of Sonic 2 on the megadrive. Again this ups the gameplay and makes what are normally tedious special stages more interesting. Innovation wise the introduction of a boost bar allows for some pretty high speed sections. Overall, Sonic Team have make a very impressive title from which i hope the build the next sonic game for ds. Only real concern is that it is a sonic game and so the fun will end at some point and the addition of a second character doesn't make u want to play it through again really. So great game but not much replay value. 9/10
Sims 2
After the abomination that was Urbz: Sims in the City earlier in the ds' life EA set out to write their wrongs with an overall impressive title. Graphically, its a vast improvement on The Urbz boasting full 3D. The texturing has been done incredibly well with only the rock formations in the desert looking blocky. That said, there is very little in the way of slow down during game play. Sound is mediocre with rock and dance tunes but EA has given u the opportunity to create ur own tunes (once uve built the sax or lion lounge). Innovation- Touch screen used to interact with objects, menus and people. Nothing to special. Where it is used well is during the mini game known as Alien Autopsy where by u have to cut out the organs from aliens to sell for money. Overall, a big improvement on what was a crappy Urbz game. Great graphics, not too bad music it manages to hold its head up high as looking one of ds' most impressive games graphically. The main game doesnt last too long but u can continually go back into the game and run ur hotel to make as much money as u can until u get bored of it (which might be after about 30mins because missions aren't very varied.) 8/10
