Some questions:

I'm currently on firmware 2.0, i've bought a 4gb sd card and is incompatible.
Question: Does newer firmwares support more sd cards?

Another question:
I've been away from gp2x since january.
What is worth downloading between those times? (Any and everything, I want to be updated)

• Yes.
• CPS2, MAME, PicoDrive, gNeoGeo
• The Crucible™

And gpsp the GBA emulator to that, as well as tons of homebrew. And maybe even pocketSNES, but I'm not sure when the last revision of that came out.

ive tried to upgrade my firmware from 2.0.0 to 2.1.1
On the info screen it says 2.1.1 but on the green boot screen it says 2.0.0
What have I done wrong, I'm sure i didnt brick it.
I'm trying to get this 4gb sd card to be recognized by my gp2x

You need to hold down start + select during the upgrade. Also, you may need to go into the utility section, and run the updater manually after the initial upgrade (if it didn't do so automatically)

ok, here's what I did.
I extracted the zip file and these are the files i put on the sd card
gp2xpatch-2.1.1.tar.gz
gp2xupdate.gpu
gp2xkernel.img
LPGL.txt
GPL.txt
license.txt

i held start and select, it said upgrading firmware, then patching, then complete.
Then i went to utility and ran gp2xupdate.gpu

but on the green screen it still says 2.0.0
was i supposed to extract the gp2xpatch-2.1.1.tar.gz further?
or was it something else i did wrong?
and is 2.1.1 supposed to show up onthe green boot screen?

It should say 2.1.1 on the green screen.

You could try again ... maybe it didn't take?

does anyone know where i went wrong?
i'm trying hard to get the green screen to say 2.1.1 and it wont

"Then i went to utility and ran gp2xupdate.gpu"

What was displayed on the screen when this update did its thing?

it said complete..
still trying to get it to change to 2.1.1 on the green boot screen.
this is weird, upgrading before was really easy

should i try downgrading to 2.0 then up to 2.1.1?
this is really frustrating
and what about 3.0, should i try that?
i just want to get this 4gb card to work.
i use gmenu so the interface change won't be a problem.

Do you have a cardreader that works?
I couldn't upgrade my gp2x with my 4gb card because my cardreader didn't support more than 1gb.

No, FW 3.0 sucks. You could try downgrading to 2.0.0 again and then to 2.1.1. Twice I forgot to put gp2xkernel.img on the SD card when I upgraded to 2.1.1, and this caused that the green screen said 2.0.0 but info said 2.1.1. Make sure that you have gp2xkernel.img there!
Also, if it is an SDHC card, they aren't supported in the official firmware. However there is this: http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?showtopic=35840
And the upcoming Open2x should support SDHC cards. I have a 4GB regular SD and seems to work just fine with my gp2x.

I don't remember anyone saying that SD compatibility changed after 2.0, the only thing that happened that the reading speed became faster, but I might be wrong. What is the card you are using? are you sure your card is not an SDHC card? those are the ones that are not officially supported (yet!) but I guess Notaz and some other members got a build (2.1.2) that supported them.
You can also try this:
Downgrade to 2.0.
Upgrade to 2.1.0 <---
Upgrade to 2.1.1
I didn't try 3.0, and many topics were open to discuss whether it is worth upgrading to, and I was never convinced that there is any useful gain from it so I didn't upgrade.

Only one of my SD cards will let me upgrade, the Nokia one that came with my old N-gage, my sister has 2 sd cards, we tried a few times to upgrade hers with no luck until we tried her other card, then it took first time.

Not saying that is the answer but it only takes a few minutes to check and it saves you throwing the thing at a wall.
