Hi!
I'm going to buy a GP32 , have been reading in this forum quite a long time. Now I'm wondering if the snes emulation works well now. I heard there's been many problems, especially with the frame rate. In the readme of snes9xgp08b you can read that it's 100 % real speed:
"
New in this version 0.64a
- Release cancelled
- 100% speed (by popular request)
- 100% sound (yeah, it sounds good now)
"

So is it true??

I think so, i will tell you on tuesday when i get my gp32, but what i have heard it is looking good at the moment, go and buy a gp32, their is so much more to do than just emulate the snes ;)

First Off, Welcome to the boards (posting anyways) :p

100% Speed and Sound?

I have not heard of this. Can you provide a link for evidence?

And of course I could just be living in a cave on mars and have not heard of this, but my snex emu runs about half speed.

P.S. I hope you're correct ;)

Thats what the readme says, unfortunately its not true :p
Snes9x is great for RPG's (some of them) but its nowhere near 100% speed.

perhaps at a cpu clock of 180Mhz :)
but still the improve it that the most is good playable at 133Mhz

Both SNES EMU's run at 100% speed, err that is until you load a ROM, then it slows down a bit.

Probably

SNESEMU - No sound - 70-75% on Zelda
SNES9XGP - Sound saves etc - 60-65% on Zelda

Still playable but faster games may struggle to be played, also SNESEMU did not seem to have all the layer properly working (no rain at start)

But for starters both excellent. It took a few years for the PC versions to get up to scratch and even now there is the odd game that can not be played, so hopefully we will have a 90-95%, sound and saves SNES emu pretty soon.

Hope so anyway

MrT

Super Punchout and Flashback run at fullspeed

Super punchout - snesemu
Flashback - snes9x(close to fullspeed)

Anyone else have findings of virtually full speed?

Hmmm
That doesn't sound that good to me. What games would be both interesting and work well? PC Engine is very old, is it? Well, and GBC Games are not that good...
There are sooo many old Pc games for snes, for example Civ1, Worms, Doom, WC1 etc...

Yeds PCengine is old but was host to some classic games.

I'm also shocked that you can say GBC games are no good! Have you every played Mario Golf or Tetris?

Year, but I prefer to play RPGs. I know there's Pokemon and Zelda for GBC, but it's just not the same as Ultima 7 or Final Fantasy 3 for snes. Why can't the GP32 CPU be just a bit faster and the RAM a bit larger ? :-(

Ultima is available for GBC, as are Final Fantasy Adventure(s) (I think...) which are nice alternatives to the standard FF. That said, I can play a lot of FF games with the snesemu.

Snes emu by Zardoz Jones (so called "fast emu") - no sound, good speed (frameskip is set to 3). Project discontinued.

Snes9xpGP - current version has sound, support saves in games but is rather slow. But there is also good news. Ive talked with Inteleco today (author of Snes9xGp) and he said that his current WIP version with sound off is fast as a hell (even faster than original snes ;). He works on his emu everyday, so maybe soon or not so soon ;) he will release it to public, and i hope it will astonish you all :)

And for the end. There is probably third emu under development. This time it is ZSNES port to GP32. As you probably know, ZSNES is open source, but the problem is that it is pure assembler source :) but i ve heard someones is going to use his magic skilss and convert it to gp. But that all i know. Even for me it is a rumour ;)

sounds really great !!!
Hope they release it in a few weeks, when i have my gp32...

also i think a zsnes emu port would be great, on my pcs it was the fastest.

Final Fantasy Adventures lists as 'seiken densetsu' in the file selector, and FF Legends as SaGa.. Square been slapping the FF name on other games to increase sales ? That said, theyre still good games, its all still Squaresoft after all :) Favourite on the GBC would have to be Dragon Warrior Monsters 2, if ya havent played it, give it a go.. its like a cross between Monster Rancher, Pokemon (without the annoying franchise) and a standard RPG.. leet :)

w00t

ZSNES is one of the best because it's pure ASM, but a guy with serious asm skills could change the source...still damn hard :) I wish him the best of luck.

As for Snes9xgp, I knew there was room for improvement! Cool... it can be transformed to asm too, at least partially, for the bottlenecks in the code.

There's no harm in having multiple emulators, healthy competition, plus not all emus can run all games, etc. I really look forward to both releases.

That sounds indeed good. I will wait for an useful emulator for snes until I'll buy a gp32, I think. Furthermore I've just seen the gp32 with backlight... though a bit expensive.

I was there when Intelecto spoke his magical words :p

[12:51] <Intelecto> I just like to surprise people
[12:51] <hando> great

[12:51] <Pekele> WOW HERE YOUR RUMOR hando !
[12:51] <Pekele> :)
[12:51] <Intelecto> Right now I get faster than full speed when I turn sound off usually.
[12:51] <ToriStudy> cool
[12:51] <akumajo> HI PEKELE ;)

[12:53] <Intelecto> So when its surprising enough to make you all cry when you see it, then I'll release it :)

I can see what he's doing :p

Btw the signal to noise ratio is pretty damn high, I count three lines of info about the emu in that :D
