Hey guyz...

I know you have finalized the spec for the Pandora... but there is this kick-a** ARM that recently came out called the SnapDragon ARM by Qualcomm. This chip is set to go at 1 GHz standard, with higher clocks being a grand possibility. Would the OpenPandora team consider using this CPU in the Pandora II (or Pandora rev. 2)? This would be killer!

P.S. Totally unrelated, but a built in webcam at the top of the LCD would also be nice. :p

Wow... gee those were fast replies. Seriously though... why not? What's the point of the hardware being "community built" if no one will even consider hardware revisions for future revs of the handheld? I don't want people starting to think... "The Pandora is so 2008! That's so 2000-late."

No I'm not a pessimist. I'm just practical.

P.S. None of you are actually part of the actual team so how the heck would you know!?!?

Sorry, I usually put more effort in than that. :D "Pandora 2" topics have been done to death. Consider the first two replies a sign of things to come. You weren't to know that. But now you do.

MM... Ok. I just think there is nothing wrong with forward thinking. It helps stir up creativity. :p

And kill sales of the first version if people think a newer, better one is around the corner.

Snapdragon seems to be based on the Cortex-A8. It may be that there will be a future revision based on the Cortex-A9, but what are the advantages of that over the OMAP 4 SoC?

As much fun as it is to look at new processors now, we really can't tell what kinds of processors there will even be 4 or 5 or however many years down the road when the developers decide to revise the Pandora.

there isn't exactly anything wrong with your idea except that the TI OMAP3530 isn't all that different from snapdragon (some pandoras have already clocked upto 900mhz)... it has just come up about 30+ times already and it really is too soon

I have said in the past that talking up ideas is good... but I have to admitt now... it is really WAY too early

so don't take it too hard when chip locks this thread (make it quick and painless please chip :) )

oh and Welcome to the pandora forum RhapsodyGuru

There should be some kind of subforum just for Pandora 2.
I don't think Pandora 2 related stuff should belong in offtopic almost nobody reads those forums. Is there anyway to put one up.

uh hey, i've got this crazy idea... HOW ABOUT WE LET THE FIRST ONE COME OUT BEFORE TALKING UP A SUCCESSOR?!

Seriously though, all this panda 2 shit is pointless to begin with. Does no one here get moore's law or something? You don't think in 5 years there will be newer, faster, better chips? There's nothing wrong with speculation, but at this point in the game it's just plain annoying.

We don't need a Pandora 2 forum. We're not even thinking about hardware revisions right now, and probably won't for at least a year or two. By the time we do start thinking about a new version, any hardware available today will be irrelevant, so there is no point at all to discussing it now.

a so small improvement would be POINTLESS for a future version... it's almost the same proc as the one from the pandora... and more advanced chip like cortex A-9 aren't getting there soon, only ES are anounced for the next few months... there's no chance of a device comercialised in the next years and a half... forget your pandora2 ideas

No it has nothing to do with Cortex-A8. It's Qualcomm's own implementation of an ARMv7 CPU.

Are you sure a Pandora has reached that speed? I mean isn't it a dev board that reached that high? Or a non cased Pandora board? That'd be different :)

The webcam is a no, because many people don't want webcams, and the type you integrate above a tiny LCD are such shoddy quality, that they wanted to give people the freedom of choosing their own webcam.

So in short - the Pandora has a USB port - use it!

The next Pandora will have revolutionary hardware specs - not evolutionary ones. I fully expect it to be a multicore beast!

Create the forum, put a single topic there titled "NO!" and then lock the forum. :D

I hope the Pandora 2 has the same case. Maybe an alteration to the LCD part to accomodate a bigger OLED screen in the future. But the bottom portion of the Pandora is aces.

While we're at it, why don't we just put a list of development suggestions, with answers. Then lock the forum and set it alight. Perhaps put razor wire coated in honey with killer bees.

Anybody going in there gets what they deserve.
Just sayin'
