Hi people,

I converted all my cds, a couple of years ago, at 128kbps (near cd quality) but some of my audio books I would like to re-convert smaller so they fit on my pda easier.

I have converted a couple of them at 32 or 64kbps, but they sound like utter crap. I have obtained (!) a converted lord of the rings audio book which is at 24kbps and sounds fine, where am I going wrong?

So how do you convert stuff that small and make it sound ok?

I used audio cleaning lab and easy cd creator.

Thanks in advance :)

hmm have you tried to use .ogg instead of mp3 i think ogg is supported on most platforms (i get better quality with ogg,s dunno why tough)

re encoding lossy formats always leads to a exponential quality loss, if you want half decent quality you will have to rip them again,
you should also use mono sound as stereo effectively half's the quality (2 tracks) and isn't needed for audio books usually.
And OGG or Speex will give you better quality at the same bitrate then mp3.
