Sbagen

dang people! how can you die by listening to something?
....................................................
Stupidity!

Thanks for updating sbagen, critical.. A problem- volume control doesn't work.
Critical: just a question: how come the sound can't be outputted by speaker?

You can fuck yourself up. I was messing about with binaural stuff in a synth/tracker package (Buzz for those who know) one night and I must have done something wrong, because it really messed me up for the rest of the evening. Be careful.

Oh yeah, it only really works if you use headphones - speakers will not have much effect.

Some people have claimed in the past that binaural beats have been used in pop music to make people feel good when listening to it... that seems unlikely though :)

The overclocking function is missing; I want to overclock my brain :D

Oh and here is the wikipedia link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binaural_beats

including:
Alleged dangers

Software providers creating packages for audio processing such as Adobe Audition (formerly Syntrillium Cool Edit Pro) do have disclaimers in their help materials stating that the use of brainwave synchronization by means of binaural beats can cause seizures and even death and that they will not be held responsible for injuries or deaths that occur as a result of the use of binaural beats.

 We are all going to diiiieeeeeee

The good think is, lots of stuff works when you believe in it :D
lol. Watch out Critical our dead bodies might sue you.

WOOOOWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh man was that freaky!!!! I was listening to the different samples and stuff, just going down the line, because I saw that there was over 30 samples, and I just kept listening and then starting a new one, and the whole time I was like whoa, ok next one.....whoa.....and then I got to this other one, and the screen flashed, and I heard like 2 clicks, and then the tone started out loud and then started very slowly fading.

.....and then my screen went WHITE!!!

DAMN BATTERIES!!!! I thought I was seriously like blacking out for a sec, and going into trance mode....and my DAMN BATTERIES WENT OUT!!!

ohwell....next time I try to induce a state like that I'll make sure my batteries are full, so I don't get lost...:)

DSR

lol maybe you were actually in trance and just thought that your batteries were empty! Fuck, maybe you are in trance right now and we are not even real people...

operation mindfuck!!! FNORD...

sounds like some sort of a drug.. But if this is what I think it is I want it, itll be the 'cool' thing to do at school during boring classes. !!

Ill definately get this, but if I die ill haunt you all... Even though I dont believe in afterlife :)

I love this program :)
I thing though. When using gngeo with selecter, after exiting it goes back to the selecter screen again. But with this it goes back to the menu and you have to go back in to the program again. Is there a way to change it?

Yeah, give me a minute. I'll fix the silly sound volume problem too.

OK, so my name is not Critical... but in any case The whole concept of this program is to play 2 (or more) sounds through different speakers, so each sound would only go to your left or right ear. This causes a phasing efect, which is meant to "retune" your brain.

It doesn't really wok with the speaker output since the two sounds will interfere with each other (wave theory - Physics).

If you hold the GP2X right to your face it will work... but not as well as headphnes!

PS Critical.. thanks for updating it... it's quite strange. ^^

this is weird. I tried putting my speakers in my headphone jack, but no sound. But when I put my headphones in, there was sound.

I used to produce CDs of this stuff for a meditation company. Typically you won't get any benefit from it unless you're prepared to spend at least 40-70 minutes at a time, in complete relaxation. So using it while doing something else, for example while riding the tube, is pointless because your brain is alert to other stimulus and never syncs.

So you need to close your eyes, or wear an eye mask, and chill in a comfy chair, or lie down.

You will not hear the effect using speakers. Or rather, you may hear something but you won't get the benefit unless you use stereo headphones.

This is how it works. The frequencies we want are alpha waves, in the low 2-4hz range. Now, no speaker in the world can play bass that low without blowing out the cone. So instead, we create a phase offset of 2-4hz that your brain picks up, even though it isn't really hearing it.

To achieve this, we play a low 100hz tone through your left ear, and (for a 4hz effect) a 104hz tone through your right. When you listen on stereo headphones, the effect is more percieved than heard. It's like a subtle "whooshing" around your head, bit like a very soft helicopter. whup-whup-whup-whup sort of thing.

Now, it takes your brain 10-20 minutes just to get in sync. So when we design these, we actually begin with a much faster tone of around 20Hz and gradually take you down, over the course of 20mins. Once you're down, we typically add an 8hz spike every 10-15 mins, just to keep you lucid. And then we bring it gradually back up at the end.

There is a lot of research available into what exposure to prolonged sessions of various frequencies will do. There is documented evidence to suggest that certain frequencies will improve your concentration, make you smarter (remember stuff better), and others can relax you, or refresh you. Some frequencies can even be used as sleep replacers - when you have 60 mins in hand but need the benefit of a full night's sleep.

There is also, on the fringes of research, some anecdotal evidence to suggest that exposure to certain frequencies may improve ESP in those who already manifest it. Can't comment on that. I tried juicing myself on ESP vibes and I still haven't managed to pick the winning lotto numbers yet.

WOW. Thanks so much for your super-detailed (and easily understood ;)) explanation TheFr00n!

A word of advice here from someone that has made a great deal of study into altered states of conciousness and meditation.

Don't try any of the extreme settings for this sort of thing until you have managed the basics.

eg: don't try any deep trance level inducing settings. Don't try and lucid dreaming and or OOB settings until you are comfortable with the lower level settings.

You can easily become washed out for days if you try too much too soon.

For those of you that understand. You can end up leaving chakras open draining energy because you didn't close them towards the end of the session.

I can't comment on this exact program as I don't have a GP2x only a GP32 but I have done extensive research and testing for a freeware Amiga program called CINN using the same principles.

Put in simple terms these sort of programs let beginners achieve states of conciousness that took me years of meditational training to achieve.

They are great tools but use them wisely.

Now only if they had a groove that made women incredibly attracted to nerds….

I've tried this on the PC, not yet on my GP2X though. It's very relaxing. Apparently theta state does something to your sodium-potassium levels in your brain, leaving you mentally refreshed, or whatever. It's quite a nice sensation, but I only listened for about 10 minutes whilst sitting in a computer chair, and I understand that for the full effects it should be done for about an hour when you're as comfortable as possible.

I enjoy messing with my brain.

When do we get the sounds for telekinesis, levitation and out-of-body experiences?

To be honest, you'd be better off with months of dedication than funny sounds. I don't have months of dedication, so I didn't get very far with TK. I keep telling myself I should pick it up again... now where did I put that psiwheel...

How do you tell what frequency something is? On my computer it just says its playing at 44100 hz or something like that.
