A little off topic this, but still on the subject of remixes

There was a TV advert years ago about Cadbury's mini chocolate eggs. The advert was a take on the old Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band's - Mr Slater's Parrot. I thought it was soo funny, I did a dance remix of it featuring some of my old DJ friends and Alyson on female vocals :)

MCParrot.mp3

I actually got this played at our Students Union, and the silly sods danced to it

Oh my god, I was just about to ask you to post that again, and there it was. That really rules.

EDIT: Figured I'd better put something of some use on here, so here y'are

http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/list.php?which=genre&id=12 It's the Video Game Section of the Newgrounds audio portal, people are always mixing video game songs there.

You're welcome and I have another remix of it on my old Amiga A1200 somewhere. I will dig it out as it has a rather daft bit in the middle of the mix if you're interested.

I will have a look through Newgrounds tonight :) .

The Katamari Damacy soundtrack (it doesn't need to be remixed), in particular Katarmari on the Rocks.

Gotta agree with you there. It's great and goes with the game superbly, without being boring.

On the subject of game music in general, have you heard the music in Klonoa 2 on the PS2? Some tracks on that game are truly beautiful...

As an example: I still haven't found a remix of the Turrican 2 theme that sounds better than the original.
I did however found a fun one of the ending theme... A Western version :) Apparently it's almost a complete rip of the original western piece, but the likeness still made me laugh.

Well....

Me and a mate did this one ages ago (like 12 YEARS AGO). Have a listen and see what you think. Apart from the main tune being slightly different - my mate insisted it sounded better (Hmmmm) - its prettty damn accurate. This version is XG powered, but original was done on a Yamaha DX7! Its less a remix also, and more of a complete transfer to a better-sounding set of instruments....

Have alisten and give me your opinions...!

Man that must have been a lot of work. That IS pretty accurate - thus I wonder why the main tune is different. I still prefer the original however - I was just cleaining my flat and tried listening to them both on repeat.
Some instruments does seem better quality, but I overall I think your version seem less powerful (very noticable in the begining). I figure if your want to do a 1:1 version of something of better quality, you'd really want to have the instruments to be of similar lenght and so on. An example of this is the first xylophone-ish instrument feel very off, since it doesn't really resemble the instrument from the original.

So I don't agree with your mate ;)

Edit: oh yeah.
a link to the original for something to campare with: Turrican 2

Cheers fo rlistening :)

I know its not perfect, and to be honest, we only still have it becuse we found the original atari ST midi file we did (from Steinber pro24) a year or so ago. We imported it into the current version of Cubase and had to redo all the instruments (they were all playing as piano - interesting if totally useless!). Some of the instruments are just best guesses and may not even be the same as the original version of our version (if you see what I mean). I should redo it all with softsynths etc and see what I can come up with. Would like to redo the main theme too to make it the same as the original...

We'll see - if I get a chance, I'll post it here... :)

That`s really quite good. Nice, thanks.

Well I was playing Monkey Island 3 and I got to the bit where Guybrush has to outwit the pirates in an anti rhyme singing contest. Basically if Guybrush can say something they can't rhyme with then he wins and they go back to work.
It has one of the most funny tongue twisters in it "You say you're nasty steaming thieving pirate bad bush whackers, from what I've seen I tell you you're not pirates you're just slackers", I loved this so much, I played it again just so I could sample the audio, and thought I would share it with you all.

Here's the download:

Have Fun :)
